The noise was fantastic, wasn't it. No doubt the stands were lined with Websters, Wellers and Riewoldts too ...Bluthy wrote:They love us down there. We play a great brand of footy. Mav and Rooey are tassies I think. They will never forget Baldock. Make it happen Ahrmet .

Not too good for the gate receipts. All of them in on the one family ticket.SemperFidelis wrote:The noise was fantastic, wasn't it. Re: Can we not get back into Tasmania?
One of the biggest blunders of all time ha cost us big time.
That ego maniac Thomas didn't want to play there and the club dropped out of Tassie not understanding the massive opportunities to stay there.
I would love another opportunity to get back there but it seems a closed shop.

Won't happen, unless we are the club that satisfies the Tasmanian Government by relocating there.Vazelos wrote:One of the biggest blunders of all time ha cost us big time.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Re: Can we not get back into Tasmania?
In the interim, we go to plan B. Stealth and deception.
We get our man Gil' to make sure we play two matches in Tassie each year - Dawks and Nuff Nuff.
Sure, we don't get the home game gate, but we can steal their publicity and sell some Tassie memberships. We could even end up hijacking the unlovable Nuff Nuff's hold on those Hobart home games.

Re: Can we not get back into Tasmania?
''Twas nice weather at the game, it's a great ground to play seriously has the best turf of any AFL ground it's like carpet. It's a pity we pulled out it's been very good to the Hawks.. I think we missed out. I originally came from Melbourne to the East coast and part of that was the Saints playing games here
It gets very expensive getting over back to the " big island" just for games so I only get to about six per year
Wihile I underhand Thommo wanting out as a coach ( we couldn't win here and we were near the premiership window) ... it was very shortsighted

And the president said " I did not have sex with that woman"

Re: Can we not get back into Tasmania?
Don't get me started on what that ass clown Thomas cost us- we should've had a flag with what he had at his disposal team wise and yep Tassie was a massive error that once again only helped HawksVazelos wrote:One of the biggest blunders of all time ha cost us big time.

Re: Can we not get back into Tasmania?
Actually I'd have to agree there he come along at the right time and told us "I'll move aside when a better candidate is available..." (remembering he'd coached on Warnambool....) the downside came, as it does with all dictators, when he took control, enjoyed the power and wouldn't go so alas it ended in tears and the club lost out IMO on one of its best chances at a flag...asiu wrote:there is truth in that Teffers

Re: Can we not get back into Tasmania?
Seriously?
Unanimously lashed for calling our decision to abandon Tasmania disgraceful, and utterly disrespectful at the time. We had to leave Tassie apparently because we couldn't win there? That was the ridiculous argument, although at least P66s argument was more selfish, because he was unable to watch live.... forget the 10 000 plus Tasmania supporter in the North of Tassie though??
I had an idea that perhaps we learn to win outside in ALL conditions as it may help us win a final one day, because if the excuse is that we can't win away from home, ultimately that will bite us.
EVERYONE else on here said NO we need to get games at Etihad to win and make top 4!!!
It was a weak, shortsighted, typical decision lauded at the time by Saintsational members! Those few opposed were smashed!

Re: Can we not get back into Tasmania?
part of the (needed) Dictator role was taking on responsibility for too many aspects of the admin side of putting a team on the park
... our financial position demanded that
Maybe our actual problem was Rockets Board 'Bigger Picture' clarity ?
... but then they were straightjacketed by financial realities as well.
we sold out bigger picture clarity first on the altar of survival
then to the altar of another flag.
it wasnt all Thommo's fault.

Re: Can we not get back into Tasmania?
How do we know GT was responsible? Maybe he was consulted, but not sure the coach makes that call?
Looking for a scapegoat are we
Supporters were behind the decision too, don't have a short memory... they were on the Ross at Etihad bandwagon
Neither could have a negative word spoken
Meanwhile we watched a juggernaut in Hawthorn take our place, and wander down there and steal a generation of supporters whose parents are saints supporters
But now they have grown up watching Hawthorn and seeing them showcase 4 premiership cups to them
Thousands of guaranteed saints supporters from our Tas heartland are now a part of the 75 000 membership at Hawthorn!!!!

Re: Can we not get back into Tasmania?
Yeah... yesterday only highlighted how ridiculous it is that we don't play home games down there anymore. They were singing the song in the the stands as we danced on Hawforn's grave.

Older Tasmanians are RWB through 'n through.
Crazy to leave.

Unbelievable.
(and yep ... even though i was a Thommo fanboi .... he led the idiotic charge for leaving , imo)

Re: Can we not get back into Tasmania?
It was Thomas. He ruled the place and got his own way. He had the players, the majority of supporters and the board in his pocket.BigMart wrote:Seriously?

Re: Can we not get back into Tasmania?
Older 'Northern' Tasmanians
It's Baldock country... and a generation of Baldock fans, passed the StK baton to the next gen... ie/me
But not now... they were brainwashed by a powerhouse Hawthorn team (a team with a better history!) Buddy, Hodge, Cyril etc.... and we lost them!!! Great decision!!!
Baldock - East Devenport/Latrobe
Stewart (although a southerner) - Hobart
Lawrence - Longford
Howell - East Launceston
Bonney - Cooee
Payne - Hobart
