JO'M and Freeman etc etc
Surely the lesson has been learnt?
Remember Jesse W Smith?
If a player has serious injury problems at one club - it is both conceited and naive to think you are going to perform some medical miracle at your own club.
It is simply way too risky. Sure you might risk it but you should NEVER pay a high price for it or a high draft pick.
Hawthorn throwing two first rounders at a bloke who never actually got on the field was insane.
Did Hawthorn doctors honestly believe they had more skill, expertise or knowledge the GC doctors?
I mean just pure delusional arrogance.
This will haunt the Hawks for a long time - make no mistake.
This is a classic case of hubris. Hawks had become so intoxicated with their own success and brilliance they started believing their sh*t didnt stink and they were all miracle workers.

For god sakes, stop gloating about JOM. He has gone to hawks for the long term not the now. He's back on the field in the seniors and clocking up games. Looked average today but is an average team, learning to work with new players, learning a new system etc. And he's almost certainly getting his confidence in his leg back after two years of not being able to kick a footy. Give the kid a break. Gloat in 3 years time - to do so now is insane. He is playing you know. He got nearly as many kicks as Dunstan often did.

I dont mind the Hawks recruiting him - but they paid too much given his medical concerns.

We didn't spend much on Freeman, it was certainly worth the gamble, and although he didnt look like ever playing a game for us at one stage, that has somewhat changed. He's playing at Sandy. He's been out of the game for a long time so it will take him a long time to get back into it. Now more than ever he looks like he'll eventually play for the seniors. End of this year? Start of next? Time will tell. Fingers crossed that he's finally over his injury problems.
He still could end up being the player we hoped he would be sooner than you think

Dean Rice and Joel Smith were two injured players who opposition clubs were prepared to take a risk on!

Re: JO'M and Freeman etc etches
I only saw the first half. He was there, but didn't do much, not that I'm expecting much at the moment. Happy to see him play games out.Goose is king wrote:How did Freeman go today?

JOM 6 kicks, 8 handballs, 3 marks, 5 tackles, 1 free against.
The more you know, the more you know you don't know.

Now that I am old and know so much more, I know that I know so much about so little, and so little about so much.

Re: JO'M and Freeman etc etc
Both were expected to be 10 year players.
JOM coming off major knee injuries, learning a new system and playing in a currently bad side. Did they overpay with pick 10? couldnt care less, we got a better pick in return as well as Long and Battle. We got what the NBA terms as the 3 for 1. its a highly unsuccessful practice where you trade 3 assets to get 1 in return. overall they gave up a future 1st, Jack Scrimshaw, Ben Long and Josh Battle. honestly id rather take those blokes than gamble with a high pick on a bloke with knees the quality of Roo's (if not worse).
Freeman on the other hand was worth taking a flyer on. Pretty much paid nothing for him considering brayden sier hasnt played and we did pick up Gresh and Carlisle for Pick 5. the fact hes running out full vfl games is massive. hopefully the kid gets a clean run at it and we see him play a few games in the run home.
