Nathan Brown
will he be sent to Tom Hawkins?
Or will Jake be asked to take on the monster?

Yeah I hope that Brown is used to quell the monster forward as that is how he was sold to us…stonecold wrote:Brown, keep big Jake up higher!!!!!WellardSaint wrote:Nathan Brown

Carlisle is a much better player and user of the footy so hopefully he has a little more freedom by not minding their #1 forward.

Is it wrong of me to compare Brown to Delaney, so early in Brown's tenure?stonecold wrote:Brown, keep big Jake up higher!!!!!WellardSaint wrote:Nathan Brown

He seems to be a whole lot better than Delaney so far, but do we wait a few more games before giving him the tick of approval?

Think it's totally fair bruh... they essentially play exactly the same role, Brown seems to be an upgrade (so far) which is great as I was skeptical.WellardSaint wrote:Is it wrong of me to compare Brown to Delaney, so early in Brown's tenure?stonecold wrote:Brown, keep big Jake up higher!!!!!WellardSaint wrote:Nathan Brown

That's meant to be a joke, right?
Delaney was a very average VFL footballer whilst Brown was full back in a premiership team.

Re: Team v Cats
Worried about our inside game with Armo our big bull out and no real replacement. Steven obviously gives us some ballistic capability but need everyone to pitch in and win some inside ball. Glad the Minch gets another shot - no point keeping him on our list if we don't try the geezer out. We need to work out if he's got it or not at AFL level. Could rotate with Gresham in that small forward/midfielder role which gives us more midfield depth than Lonie.

Bit of a worry about Meatball going missing for long periods. Might be why he was in and out of the seniorsBluthy wrote:Worried about our inside game with Armo our big bull out and no real replacement. Geez our supporters love to criticise our club and its players. We finally get a big defender who has started well for the club, and we look to dis him. When managed means droppedtony74 wrote:Players are managed during pre season.BigMart wrote:Managing players in the 5th game after a 5 month pre season
Interesting
Players are managed during pre season games.
You can't manage them all at the one time.
And most importantly- we have two superior ruckmen with two 6 day breaks coming up. No one ruckman doing 80% of the work would have been able to give 100% in all seven games. Hence managed.
http://www.afl.com.au/news/2017-04-21/b ... -sidelined
Richardson conceded ruckman Tom Hickey would have been dropped even though he "pulled up stiff" from last week's game.
Billy Longer will replace Hickey and play his first game for the season after strong form in the JLT Community Series.
"We would have made the change, we think we've been on the back foot too much at stoppages, " Richardson said.
"We think 'Hick' has some room to move there in terms of being better for us in the ruck.
"But it's time for Billy to have a go, he was really positive in the JLT series, (and) he's had to wait and be patient.
"We're excited about what he might be able to do for our team."
Re: Team v Cats
I don't know why people are so obsessed with managed/dropped/injured etc. Tony flagged it would be a rotation/horses for courses thing this year. Hicks has been doing a lot of work in games and maybe struggled without third man up protection. Time to see what Longer can do. Simple as that.
We have a whole squad - we should be using them and trying them out in the big show to see who is progressing and who isn't. We have to make tough delisting decisions at the end of each year and you need to keep putting them through the sieve of senior footy to see if they have nuggets of real gold or just fools gold inside them. Longer will be probably get a shock again how fast and hard AFL footy is. Great for his development to get another taste of it and see what parts of his game hold up and which don't.

My hope is that Longer breaks even in the 1st qtr, getting used to the pace and speed,
then 2nd qtr gets fully into gear, half time listens to where he needs to improve,
then rest of the game really bring all the lessons into play.
I really hope he grows during the game.
It's his chance to shine.

I don't think anyone is dissing him, just comparing him to the last guy we recruited for the same job who played in a similar manner.twirlyhair wrote:Geez our supporters love to criticise our club and its players. Delaney was a very average VFL footballer whilst Brown was full back in a premiership team.
Both low possession, spoiling defenders that offer little run and don't take a lot of marks… Delaney played some good games for us, came 5th in our B&F.
Their career stats are basically identical.
