Re: Team next week?
According to footywire ... Gilbert's efficiency was about the same as Pendlebury's last year... 78% to 79%.
Pendlebury is an excellent user of the ball, as we all know - he wins more possessions per game, of course - but he's a midfielder.

Re: Team next week?
Gilbert is an important part of our team in my opinion. One of the only defenders willing to tuck it under his arm and take on the opposition in order to gain that extra ten metres. In the next couple years I see D-mac taking his role over, but right now Gilbo is our guy
Jack newnes looked horrible in that game, is he carrying an injury?
Would hope that some of the less fortunate guys (Sinclair, D-Mac, longer and Stevens once he gets over his illness) get a chance to play pretty soon though, as this is one of the last years we can mess around these guys before a full premiership tilt in the coming years.

If you don't have battlers then you have nothing to measure the good players with.WellardSaint wrote:+100.White Winmar wrote:Like button needed.spert wrote:Gilbert sort of cancels out his effect on a game- gets the ball well, then turns it over far too much, or just sprays kicks or handballs to none in particular. If fans celebrate and honour the battlers, we'll have nobody with skill, just a team of guys who run hard but can't do a thing with the ball when they get it.

I wish there were a few more who could understand the difference between kicking the ball at top speed having just exited a contest and chipping the ball sideways.Proph3t of egan wrote:...tuck it under his arm and take on the opposition in order to gain that extra ten metres...
Jack Steven also gets criticised on here for the same thing.
It's easy to be simple. But like an accurate sideways kick, not especially useful.

I just don't get the Gilbo hate.
The guy's one of our top five players season after season and the coach obviously loves him (he keeps playing him).

On the assumption that Riewoldt and Steven won't play and that Armitage will be fit:
Out: Steven (inj)
In: Armitage
If Armo doesn't get up:
In: Sinclair

Re: Team next week?
Well he has played 181 games of AFL footy, will bring up his 200 this season - and, but for a couple of seasons of injury recently, would now be well past 200.
And he is an automatic selection, now with the luxury of playing in his correct position.
Funny how Gilbert receives such commentary on here - but not the GOP Geary.
I know who I would prefer.

Re: Team next week?
I think after the great effort last week, most players still fit deserve a chance to see if they can keep the team form going and clock up our first win. Stevens coming back through the VFL apparently.
For Steven, I'd go Sinclair or Minch - I'd love to see Sincs in to see if he can be effective with his good skills in the middle after another preseason but Minch is a more like for like as a more dedicated onballer. Acres to play on ball with Steven out and Billings also onball a lot - he could dominate this sort of game Jack.
If no Gresh then defo Sincs for that small pressuring forward/mid spot for me but Wright might get the nod for his pressuring and spooking the young Brissy backs. Long could get a shot as he showed a bit in the preseason comp and looks a likely type. Mav needs a really good game to be holding out the likes of Long.
If Joey doesn't pull up put in I'd love to see White or Rice in and start cultivating a good kicking backline but they will probably go with Dmac who seems next on the hot list. Webster keeps his spot but I want to see him play at a high level this week, landing most of his kicks.

Re: Team next week?
I haven't seen anything to indicate that Joey is in doubt and if Roo and Armo are fit to play it creates a selection headache.
Jack S is out but who else goes out?
Maybe Webster or Savage.

Gutless lot of changes so far.
We need to improve our goal kicking. It lost us the last game. (and the umpires)

Season after season?
Fact check:
Gilbo hasnt been in the top 10 at the B & F since 2010.
Not sure if you have been in a coma. And apologies if you have. But that was 7 years ago.
I dont mind you supporting Gilbo - but at least be vaguely accurate.

They have him in the best 22.
Not top 5.
Get it right.
