Great hitout. Swans a bit behind the eight-ball being a month or so behind in preseason but they are a powerful team. I like the way we were able to change the momentum with goals when it looked like they might run away with it.

Should have won that. Missed too many easy ones.
Feeling good for Round 1 though.
Apart from the misses, Sydney got their usual charity run from the maggots.
Finals beckon this season?

needed Robbo and Savage to stop making errors.
Before you yell, Robbo ran past a guy, called for handball, then handballed to someone who was a fencepost...
Savage made numerous mistakes

Yep savage had a very crook 3rd quarter. let's hope it just a bit of pre season rustiness.WellardSaint wrote:needed Robbo and Savage to stop making errors.

Where would a fit Joey Montagna slot in to this team - who would make way? A Webster type?

We need a parochial Saints call of the game, like KROCK do for Geelong matches. At least they might get Jack Steven's name right.....

Best for me
Steven - got better when others wilted. If only his kicking was better
Steele - great first half but maybe limited preseason caught up with him. Love his quick creative hands.
HIckey - good in the ruck with a few beautiful taps. Like an extra midfielder. Surely he'll start as ruck
Roberton - made one bad clanger but otherwise provided great run and very good defensive cover
Webster - consistent, good ball use, kept his feet
Rooey - lots of possessions in mainly a wing/half back type role
Newnes - very consistent - good goal
Armo - very solid - hopefully can get back to his best
Bruce - hit the packs hard all night and a few great marks but couldn't get it between the sticks

good signs. a lot to like and a fair bit of improvement to come. wright probably stood out for me the most as earning a spot in our first game. not sure about lonie over acres in the 22, seems richardson loves the little battlers that go hard and get their hands dirty, but lonie a bit small and light. paddy needs to lift his game this year. and i'd feel better with dempster in the team.

Great signs really. Could have easily won. Missed a few sodas. Bruncey left his kicking boots at home and that miss from Paddy in the 4th... wtf.

No-one's yelling. You're spot on. I have always been critical of Robbo, but he's won me back a little. Those errors in the backline we just can't have though. Savage, as an outside running player, just can't make basic skill errors if we want to be any good.WellardSaint wrote:needed Robbo and Savage to stop making errors.

Further to what I said before, 25 tackles in the JLT series. And wins a good chunk of ball, and good user too. We have got ourselves a player.Saint_J wrote:great signs... Steele looks great he thinks.. overall happy with the level of that game just what we needed. seasons looking good imo

I like that a lot. Excellent suggestions (presuming of course that Joey isn't fit enough to play)saintbob wrote:Round 1

We had 23 play tonight. Oddly the Swans had 24.saintbob wrote:Round 1

Was Koby ill at the last minute of something?
Ins: Acres, Sinclair and Dempster
Why did they have one more?

I think Richo said they were planning to play 22 as that's what they would have for Round 1.saintsRrising wrote:We had 23 play tonight. Oddly the Swans had 24.saintbob wrote:Round 1

Lonie I guess came on for Weller.

Re: Match Thread v Swans JLT Round 3
Its a tough one because without him we were able to play all of Robbo, Savage, Gilbo and Webster to give lots of rebounding capability that was hard for Swans to shut down. But then Dempster gives you more defensive cover which might be vital if Brown and/or Carlisle are struggling on the big guys. Robbo impressed me tonight in his play reading in the back half and ability to play tall in defence.desertsaint wrote: i'd feel better with dempster in the team.
