Re: Our Final List
I am a little confused with our New Zealand connection - can someone help
So what happened to Joe Baker Thomas...has he been delisted
Also there was Barclay Miller also a New Zealander who was studying at mentor grammar
Is there a scholarship category, or is that something that the club is promoting without the direct connection to our list.
Thanks in advance

AFL International Scholarship opportunities allow for up to eight players outside of Australia to be listed with each AFL club every year.
http://aflnz.co.nz/high-performance/int ... arships-2/
In 2015 St Kilda had
Joe Baker-Thomas (NZ)
Barclay Miller (NZ)
Giovanni Mountain-Siberly (NZ)
signed to International Scholarships
http://www.afl.com.au/news/2015-04-23/s ... akerthomas
There are a few problems in trying to understand what is going on due the scarcity of web based information and the lack of precision in some articles in distinguishing between "International Rookies" who are formally Rookies Category "B" and "International Scholarship Holders".
There seems to have been an age limit of 22 for holders of International Scholarships but this has been removed so as to allow more recruitment of failed US basketballers.
http://www.afl.com.au/news/2016-02-25/m ... ment-rules
Then there is this
In addition to these six (now 4) rookie-listed players, each club can include up to three additional players (now referred to as Category B rookies) on its Rookie List provided the player either:
• has not registered in an Australian Football competition for three years immediately before inclusion on the Rookie List;
• is an international player, meaning he is not an Australian citizen and has not lived in Australia for a substantial period;
• is a former NSW Scholarship player with that club;
• is a former International Scholarship player with that club;
• is a rookie Zone Selection for clubs based in NSW or Queensland.
http://www.afl.com.au/afl-hq/the-afl-ex ... ie-players
How an International Scholarship player is moved to a rookie B is not explained nor are any age or time on scholarship mentioned.
Not that the AFL enforces rules as displayed by the acceptance of the illegal use of future picks by Hawthorn in the O'Meara trade.
I am sure that those who claim to have inside knowledge on St Kilda's recruitment will now come forward to clarify the situation, if only to prove their bona fides.

Have to question your judgement and claim that you are a bona fide St Kilda supporter by wanting to retire Roo given his form.
Either that or your one cold hearted barstard and if I cop a warning for that I will spew as it is true.

Re: Our Final List
Agree, SP. anyone who wants to prematurely retire Roo is not a saints fan. Don't give it oxygen. Given the history of alternate nicks and constant baiting and trolling, I don't know why it hasn't been banned. Btw the list is looking good. Nary a dud in sight!

Re: Our Final List
Sam Gilbert has just turned 30, he won't retire that is for absolute certain and Roo would literally need to fall off a cliff this year to retire given his form last season.citywest wrote:The following are changes I would like to see at the end of 2017.....

Re: Our Final List
Geez you know the list is starting to develop depth when you struggle to find the delisting minimum of 3 players.
Smart move by Minch and Wrights managers to sign 2 year deals this year as 2017 is not year you want to be coming out of contract.
I reckon Dempster will likely retire (not be offered a new contract) at year end.
Reiwoldt will go around again in 2018 unless something unforeseen happens in 2017.
Gilbert is a coach favourite - but his body needs to hold up if he is to go again in 2018.
One of the rucks will be under pressure but both Longer and Pearce have limited trade value. Similarly, the smalls Lonie and Sinclair will be under the pump. If they both have good years , it may just just force Joey out a year earlier than he would have liked.
As harsh as it sounds, Bailey Rice will need to show something because there just aren't that many weak links on the list and it's going to be as much about being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Re: Our Final List
With a view of finding three players to delist at the end of next season, Darren Minchington, Nathan Wright, and Shane Savage all need to have good years in 2017.
Re: Our Final List
I don't mind you calling me that...my parents may though. I just want to see St Kilda win a premiership. After next season Riewoldt will be too old to go around again. It's nothing against him at all.SaintPav wrote:I agree with 2 of these, maybe 3 at a stretch.citywest wrote:The following are changes I would like to see at the end of 2017.....

Is that a premiership winning list? It just might be. It would be even better if it included Nate Fyfe or Dustin Martin. Just saying.ace wrote:Seniors
