Hornsby lauded the effort by former top-ten pick Freeman, after the dynamic midfielder put his best foot forward following a frustrating start to his career at St Kilda.
“It was a pretty positive morning and it was great to see Nathan Freeman come second behind Jarryn Geary,” Hornsby said.
“That’s the first 3km time-trial he’s done with us and it’s great for his confidence and the belief that it builds given how much work he’s been putting in the last 12 months to get his body in good shape.
“There’s still a lot of work ahead for him but it was a good step forward for him.”

Was running 3 km ever his problem?
I'd be more impressed if he was winning sprints.

"that's the first 3km time trial he has done with us"
Interesting also, given another thread re the currency of David Armitage, that Armitage finished in the top 5, equal with Seb Ross.

Re: FREEMAN OFF TO GERMANY FOR HAMSTRING FIX
You've got to be going at a really decent clip for the entire run of 3km to finish 2nd at an AFL level time trial. It's a pretty good sign. Let's hope he doesn't miss a beat all pre-season and gets to play in the NAB challenge as well. I'll have a smile from ear to ear.kosifantutti wrote:Was running 3 km ever his problem?

Re: FREEMAN OFF TO GERMANY FOR HAMSTRING FIX
I think you will find the guys in the top 5 are running 3kms in 10 to 10.30 mins. Which in most cases is pretty bloody close to sprinting!!! Yes, agree not stop, start sprinting however they are flying whichever way you want to cut up.
Glass half empty to those pessimists. It's a great result, he has a long way to go. Awesome platform going forward for a guy who hasn't had much to smile about for a long time. Certainly made me smile when I read results.

Re: FREEMAN OFF TO GERMANY FOR HAMSTRING FIX
Exactly. It's a great sign for his overall endurance, because when he gets to play for the main squad he'll be running out games. All this despite having missed so much time over the years. This is a huge positive.prwilkinson wrote:You've got to be going at a really decent clip for the entire run of 3km to finish 2nd at an AFL level time trial. It's a pretty good sign. EDIT: Think it was in 36 degree or so weather too if it was yesterday in Melbourne.

Re: FREEMAN OFF TO GERMANY FOR HAMSTRING FIX
it was - pretty good effort to beat somebody like jack Newmes home and in that heat. he was going hard - and really this is the perfect start to his pre-season campaign. I am really looking forward to seeing Freeman in a saints jumper playing the footy we know he can.shrodes wrote:Exactly. Re: FREEMAN OFF TO GERMANY FOR HAMSTRING FIX
When they were going through the times... I hope they ALL got around him... ruffled his hair, put him in a head lock, gave him a wedgie with a good old fashioned back slapping... It'd do wonders for his confidence going forward and he might be thinking... "ALRIGHT... I'm actually part of this thing... not just the guy on the sidelines."yipper wrote:it was - pretty good effort to beat somebody like jack Newmes home and in that heat. he was going hard - and really this is the perfect start to his pre-season campaign. And here's Nathan Freeman blitzing the time trial at Collingwood!
Deserves better luck... he's obviously very hard working and dedicated.

It is ok to say we may have stuffed this one up. It's the more likely outcome atm.
