Membership pack
Just got mine. I get less and less excited by these each year as they are so minimal now.
-- Cap looks ok - got some stripey action to mix it up. Quite black with white and little stripes of red. Seems to fit on me scone nicely.
-- Looks exact same car sticker as last year (except 2017 obvs)
-- Lanyard I never use
-- Membership pin I never use
-- And a Pepper wanting to loan me money - just don't check my credit history
-- Where is my free "One free Dare Ice Coffee"? v. disappointed. If you want me to get into the stuff I need a sample to get a taste

Re: Membership pack
The club could get a lot more professional about this.
I bought my membership last week and paid in full instead going with the monthly deductions... and i note today that they've directed debited a further $35.00.
It's not a big deal but i have to call them tomorrow to straighten the mess out which is a PIA and makes the organisation seem unprofessional.
It'd be nice if they still did the Saint magazine. I used to collect those things and looked forward to them every quarter.

Re: Membership pack
I understand that it makes economic sense to source all the products and merchandise from China but would it be possible for the club to at least try and reduce the amount of pvc and plastics used. Each year the pong emmitted from the pvc bags and the pvc products in the membership packs seems to be stronger. I googled for some answers on the short term and long term health effects and it's pretty dangerous if you are exposed for lengthy periods or continuously over many years.
If you have kids, it might be a good idea not to keep this stuff next to their beds or probably best not to store any of it in their bedrooms.

Not as funny as making sure the kids don't have plastic in their rooms. That's a cracker!

Re: Membership pack
The kids packs this year had blessedly little crap, and the backpacks are actually reasonable quality. I'd rather have some semblance of quality than volumes of crap.
I like the new members' scarf too.

There are actual scientific studies done (eg. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1568862/) on the inhalation of Vinyl Chloride which found no significant effects.
This includes people working in PVC factories who no doubt had far more exposure that your kids with a bit of plastic in their house.

No offense taken and this is the last I'll say on this because I'm not here to denigrate the club or claim any wrongdoing by our marketing teams. Their not doing anything different to thousands of organisations and corporates who provide similar merchandise. The problem with trusting government and trusting limited research studies is that history tells us it's better to err on the side of caution...especially where children are concerned.
If you are not aware of the effects of lead levels in the brain and lead levels in the developing brain of a child, maybe you should spend some time watching the following episode of Catalyst. How many years did government and corporates know about the dangers associated with lead? I've seen some doccos which opened my eyes regarding corporate influence on the use of lead in manufacturing and in household building products such as paint. It's criminal the way peoples apathy and ignorance is exploited for the sake of profits. Same thing happened with tobacco and same thing with herbacides and pesticides

Re: Membership pack
And asbestos. Our old house where I was grew up was roofed with asbestos cement sheeting. Our fence was made of the same stuff. After mum and dad died, we renovated the place and were shocked at the lengths we had to go to remove the stuff. I've often wondered why kids these days have so many allergies that just weren't around when I was young. Could edposure to plastics and chemicals be partially to blame?
I started with nothing and I've got most of it left!

I think the plastic pockets are safe if you don't try to sleep with your head inside it.
I liked the scarf and the pin. And the sticker will go straight on the car.

Re: Membership pack
My 3 year old was rapt with the packpack and the pyjamas delivered.
The chemical smell when the backpack was opened was something to behold though. I opened it up and put it outside to air.
