Jake Barrett delisted from GWS
Jake Barrett 20yo GWS Midfielder delisted. DFA possibility ???
A strong season in the NEAFL from the tough on-baller was rewarded when Barrett made his debut as the sub for the GIANTS in round 23 against Melbourne. The 20-year-old averaged 29 possessions a game in the NEAFL - 14 of those contested - and was ranked first in the competition for tackles. Barrett's quality season was rewarded when he was named in the NEAFL Team of the Year.
Surely ???

But he is a Jake, not a Jack.
Is he good enough for us to take with pick 61?

I wonder what's the knock on him. Lousy kick? Too small?
Seems young to be delisted, even for a team as talent-laden as GWS

I also notice Henry Schade was delisted from GC. Wasnt there some talk on here of us trading for him?
I would certainly consider Barrett as a rookie.

He's not too small, 182cm and 82kgs. His rugby league background means he is a strong tackler and love the physical stuff. He also has good speed and elite endurancebigcarl wrote:I wonder what's the knock on him. Lousy kick? Too small?

Re: Jake Barrett delisted from GWS
I assume he's a spud given he played one AFL game over 3 seasons with GWSbigcarl wrote:I wonder what's the knock on him. Lousy kick? Too small?

Still, that's one more game than Freeman over the same time period.

Has to be a spud, maybe SOS will rookie him for the GWS seconds.
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

I recon we should make space and bring him in... although the club will obviously know a lot more than us, they will have watched a lot of GWS in the NEAFL, monitoring Steele for one...BringBackMadDog wrote:He's not too small, 182cm and 82kgs. It would likely require shuffleing someone to the rookie list..
Could we re-draft Holmes as a rookie?
Could Dempster spend his last year on the rookie list? Would not affect his pay packet and there is almost always one person on the LTI list so he should be right to play
Any other options?
Anyway.. it depends on how the club rates him and whether he choses us over other options.. I am sure someone will grab him

well he does not have to be... He may be.Wayne42 wrote:Has to be a spud, maybe SOS will rookie him for the GWS seconds.
Let's allow our recruiters who actually have seen him play to make the assessment rather than just making it up!
GWS have a list squeeze with decreasing list size... so it is not a normal situation
Re: Jake Barrett delisted from GWS
Cant assume hes a spud they wouldve wanted to keep him but wanted game time, very hard to break into that side. the shot at freeman is unwarranted. i.e Tim Membrey.saintspremiers wrote:I assume he's a spud given he played one AFL game over 3 seasons with GWSbigcarl wrote:I wonder what's the knock on him. "excellent results at the 2013 AFL draft combine where he finished second in the beep test reaching level 15.6 as well as a top 10 result in the 20-metre sprint".
Would look good in Red, White and Black but seems Port and Hawks are the big 2 for him at this stage.

Re: Jake Barrett delisted from GWS
Also notice that Whiley got delisted by Carlton.
No I don't want Whiley but he had Barrett level of hysteria when he played NEAFL.
We've taken two GWS players and in both situations GWS said they were sad to see them go.
What I'm trying to say is keep doing that and not start getting their rejects!

Re: Jake Barrett delisted from GWS
Looking through the stats he had some massive games in the NEAFL (for what it's worth).
Massive in the grand final.
Never seen him play but must have something

Agreed pick him up Saints! Delist Pierce and reselect him as a rookie...Goose is king wrote:Looking through the stats he had some massive games in the NEAFL (for what it's worth).

He would probably be a better pick up for us than Cam O'Shea that a lot are after on Big Footy.

Re: Jake Barrett delisted from GWS
Saw a fair few Sandy games this year and Pierce was better than both Longer and Holmes in all of them.
Reckon he is tracking along okay for a big guy, improved heaps this year.
Not sure I know why such love for Barrett, Templeton is a better footballer and we just got rid of him.
