DEES FIRST UP AT ETIHAD
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/m ... 632d5134aa
St Kilda v Melbourne, Etihad Stadium, 3.20pm
Highly anticipated match between two likely big improvers. The Saints traded exceptionally well, while the Demons can look forward to having one of the game’s better on-field leaders Jordan Lewis join their ranks.

Re: DEES FIRST UP AT ETIHAD
I will most probably be flying back from Europe at the time but it will be nice to get back to see 4 points and percentage against the Saints name.

SAINTS vs DEES FIRST UP AT THE DOME
Saints vs Demons with a view of the sky and 40,000 fans to signal a new era of bigger crowds @ The Dome.
I expect the Dees to keep improving like us/ could be a classic encounter.
It would of coarse be sweet indeed to get those 4 points.
Also looking fwd. to Dunstan, McCartin & Hickey being fit & available.

Re: DEES FIRST UP AT ETIHAD
Dees were first up in 1963 and a certain "Big Carl" made his debut (along with another bloke called Ian Stewart). I can't speak for before 1960, but since then, there has never been a more spectacular and memorable debut for the Saints - and he was just 17. Trailing at three quarter time, we ran all over them in the last quarter. I can remember it as though it was yesterday (Alas, I can hardly remember the real yesterday).kosifantutti wrote:What day is that bigcarl?

Re: DEES FIRST UP AT ETIHAD
Yep, I recall that day as well. It signalled to the establishment of the VFL that the Saints were a coming force, playing off in the G.F. in 2 years and winning that big one in 3. Lets hope this is an omen for 2019 and 2020!!!

I was also there that day and we went in the rooms at the end of the match as my older brother was friends with Alan Morrow, who he did national service with.

My favourite Saints v Demons was in "58 I think. The match where Paul Dodd starred and we beat the reigning premiers by a point. Enormous game.

That was at the MCG and I remember it well even though it was my first season following the saints.borderbarry wrote:My favourite Saints v Demons was in "58 I think. The match where Paul Dodd starred and we beat the reigning premiers by a point. Enormous game.
I remember the chanting as we were finishing over them in the last quarter.

Tough first game, and they're due against us. Will be delighted to get out of it with 4 points.

Re: DEES FIRST UP AT ETIHAD
They are due; hopefully we can hold it over them again at the dome with the return match at the G having a finals spot riding on it.

Re: DEES FIRST UP AT ETIHAD
So season opener ...and we get a the shitty Sunday slot.
My TIP: The Dons after being done for being Drug Cheats will end up with a better draw than us with probably more Friday Games to boot.

Actually this game should be for the Carl Ditterich Cup. For my boyhood hero who served both clubs so well.perfectionist wrote:Dees were first up in 1963 and a certain "Big Carl" made his debut (along with another bloke called Ian Stewart). Excellent news. They have been due at least the last 10 times we played them.Rosco wrote:They are due;

Re: DEES FIRST UP AT ETIHAD
Good work AFL - I think this is a great first up matchup as the two young turks of the comp who look ready to be serious players. I get the feeling demons will be our close rivals for a flag like the the dogs were last time with the lists in similar places. Then you've got the McCartin vs Petracca debate. Its good we got the edge on them last year. Be interesting to see how smooth the transition to Goodwin is. Should be a cracker. I don't mind the Sunday games. I find it easy to get the games and get home but then I don't have kids.

What a shitty Sunday slot indeed. Pleasing to see Essendon and Collingwood both have prime time games.saintsRrising wrote:So season opener ...and we get a the shitty Sunday slot.

Tough game... should be a ripper... both teams will be good, and both will make the 8 in 2017 IMO... all other things (e.g. injuries) being equal

Re: DEES FIRST UP AT ETIHAD
And the drug cheats continue to be 'punished' by the AFL. How about rewarding two up and comers with a prime Saturday evening slot? Sunday again! Sheet!
I started with nothing and I've got most of it left!
