WTF Hawks..!
So the Hawks have given
2 first round picks
2 second round picks
and all their 3rd, 4th and 5th round picks for this year for Omeara....!
That is f****** crazy!!
According to my calculations that makes him worth.....2,897,098 points!

Re: WTF Hawks..!
They way I see it their net position is....
In:
Mitchell mk2
O'meara
Out:
Mitchell mk1
Lewis
Hill
2 x 1st rnd pick
2 x 2nd rnd pick
3rd rnd pick
4th rnd pick
Any illusion that they are somehow the masters of trade week.
They are left with a first pick of 88 in the draft.

The Saints would have been a laughing stock if they did it.
And rightly so.
The Hawks are still riding the 3-peat glory where the media won't argue with anything they do, and the fans ditto.
However, unless Mitchell becomes as good as Sam Mitchell, which he won't, and unless O'Meara is an utter freak, I think they've made a big mistake.
Burgoyne will be gone next year, Gibson too. They haven't drafted really at all for a 2 years and won't for another 2. Even if O'Meara and Mitchell are unbelievable - they're still going downhill compared to where they've been at with Hodge, Mitchell, Lewis, Roughead, Burgoyne, Gibson and co. running around.
In my opinion, they needed to accept that their era was over, and start drafting. They've done the opposite and tried to beat the system by replacing freaks with recycled players. It never works. Never has, never will.
Clubs always overrate their 'culture' and their 'program' and think they can replace these guys.
You can't.

Please.
I remember a Bulldogs fan telling me once that they already had a replacement for Scott West in Daniel Cross.
It's just madness. People fall for this s*** all the time.

Re: WTF Hawks..!
Hawks have hit the panic button but that is understandable. Roughie tragedy. Hodge, Burgoyne, Gibson and Mitchell all at the end. Lewis struggling. They are facing the end of an era.

Not a knock on them - it's just a reality of the AFL system. They've done incredibly well to remain 'up' for as long as they have, and clearly capitalised on their chances whilst being up.
But, you've gotta know when to fold 'em.
And I think they've believed their own publicity that they can avoid the inevitable decline that all clubs must go through.

Re: WTF Hawks..!
O'Meara is currently not running, which means that knee of his has a long way to go. He won't be ripping it up in 2017. It may be a Nathan Freeman type year for him, building toward 2018. Go and look on the Hawks website and sift through their list. They cannot maintain their current position in the short term. They will slip back a few places in 2017. Mitchell will be good for them, Vickery will just fill a hole, while their two most prolific midfielders from this year are playing elsewhere. Remember, they've basically given up almost two whole draft periods for these three players with no guarantee of off-setting their losses from this year (Mitchell, Hill, Lewis). If they had maintained decent picks in the draft in 2016 & 2017, I would have said it's a win for them. However........

If the saints had given up our first two in this years B&F and two years of draft picks for those two, I would be really pissed off.

Re: WTF Hawks..!
They finished 5th this year? Should ensure a pretty tough draw. Can see them being 12-15 next year and giving us a very nice pickcwrcyn wrote:O'Meara is currently not running, which means that knee of his has a long way to go. He won't be ripping it up in 2017. Re: WTF Hawks..!
As opposed to the Saints who held their nerve.
All things being equal, we should go to the draft in 2017 and we should retain our draft picks.
This period could set us up for the next 10 years if we continue to play our cards right.
Mark my words people, the Saints are going places.
