Newnes and others much too young and steven is not captain material ffs.
If people here could hear how geary is youd all want him captain.

Mitchell was the best Swan today. I desperately hope that he does not land at the Hawks.

Re: Jaxons come on down
I thought Mitchell was rubbish
Slow, doesn't defend and accumulates a lot of footy but isn't a power mid or that damaging
He had one good quarter and was poor otherwise

Re: Jaxons come on down
Well he was named as one of their best, I guess some people see things differently
Re: Jaxons come on down
Well he was ahead of a few pathetic performers.
Rohan, Tippett, McGlynn and Papley were embarrassing
As I said
He had a great second quarter ... Loved to know how many metres he gained?

Re: Jaxons come on down
My preference would be for a mid-field contributor to Captain, so someone who is where the ball is and can lead by example.
A small lock down defender has limitations - and particularly if the likes of White, McKenzie and Webster can add damaging rebound to defensive discipline.
As today showed you need line breakers when the pressure and disruption of finals football is the game in town.
You simply can not miss an opportunity as you strive to make the contest a contest in the area of the ground you score from.
Sydney did not have anyone who could gain yards.
How would Sydney have loved to have Membrey today?
The structure of Franklin and every other forward under 183cm just did not work.
Of Sydney's half dozen players over 190cm, only Grundy received a pass.
And whilst their inside players got hands on the ball, they did so under great pressure hence the releases were poor allowing WB to either create another contest and then eventually find space Sydney just could not find.
So we look at the template to take performance to another level of pressure, disruption and gaining distance.
That brings me back to the hope that the likes of White, McKenzie and Webster can give us stifling defensive pressure and, on the break, distance and delivery.

A bit harsh there BM both sides were in it until the last quarter and if I had to put it down to why the swans lost, an injured Buddy in the first quarter, followed by Hannebery and if the umpires dont want you to win you generally dont

Well put and how I read it too.Playon wrote:A bit harsh there BM both sides were in it until the last quarter and if I had to put it down to why the swans lost, an injured Buddy in the first quarter, followed by Hannebery and if the umpires dont want you to win you generally dont
In addition Richards was avg, Mills underdone, Pap, McGlynn, Hewett etc did not step up and Parker playing hurt.
Would love this flat feeling tonight to be diminished by news for Jaxons of a player wanting us.

Re: Jaxons come on down
Dogs showed today just how important run and spread is - we have Jack S in that department and not much else
We need a mid who can win his own ball AND break a line plus jag the odd goal
I think in Ross Dunstan Armitage we have plenty of extractors
We badly need some leg speed IMO
I think Freemans a long shot btw

This. We need guys like Johanessen. Speed in our team would consist of Steven and Savage. Surely we draft a good speedy mid this year.Teflon wrote:Dogs showed today just how important run and spread is - we have Jack S in that department and not much else

What they showed is that u have to have the balls to a take a risk...The Boyd decision is now SPOT ON...so many people have knocked the decision to pay all that money but it was ballsy and today...won them a flag..we need to be brace like the dogs...get the big fish..!Teflon wrote:Dogs showed today just how important run and spread is - we have Jack S in that department and not much else

It didn't hurt that when they broke from a clearance Swans couldn't go with them... we struggle to do that...The Recruit wrote:What they showed is that u have to have the balls to a take a risk...The Boyd decision is now SPOT ON...so many people have knocked the decision to pay all that money but it was ballsy and today...won them a flag..we need to be brace like the dogs...get the big fish..!Teflon wrote:Dogs showed today just how important run and spread is - we have Jack S in that department and not much else

I'm hoping McCartin is our Boyd
Although I suspect we need a Dangerfield not forward

I have stated this in other threads, but it is no co-incidence that our win/loss vastly improved when McKenzie and Wright were inserted into our 22 to inject more pace and run. The stats driven whinge that they did not gain enough disposals, but are blind to the way that our team play vastly improved. With their closing pace they also applied more pressure to our opponents as well.

Re: Jaxons come on down
Funny how things work out. Tom Boyd was practically gormless against us 8 weeks ago.
Weird.
Today the Swans were outplayed , outcoached and were completely gormless.
Wish we came up against such a gormless opposition in our Grand Finals.
Well done dogs. Fully deserved.
I can still be envious at the same time.
Sue me.

No it was not the one big call at all. It was making many right calls. Overall their recruiting has been very good. Very good. The biggest help however as been all their little fish punching well above their drafted weight. ie JohannisenThe Recruit wrote:What they showed is that u have to have the balls to a take a risk...The Boyd decision is now SPOT ON...so many people have knocked the decision to pay all that money but it was ballsy and today...won them a flag..we need to be brace like the dogs...get the big fish..!Teflon wrote:Dogs showed today just how important run and spread is - we have Jack S in that department and not much else

Bevo has been the icing on the cake it getting all that young talent to blossom and bloom. He has also made the older players better to. ie How good was Picken today?
Boyd got the attention today due to his huge salary and resultant media. But it was a total team effort. Buddy may well have been injured, but he had a wall of Dogies whenever he got near the ball.
Back on Boyd. He was struggling in the FF role. Bevo moving him further up the ground and playing him as the second ruck has done wonders for Boyds game. Bevo is very good at reinventing players, as well as getting the best out of players.
