The worst day of the year!
It shouldn't be, but it is. Each GF day, I still feel sick to my stomach. Oh, I will watch the game, perhaps this week with the mute button off. But the TV will go off the moment the final siren sounds. Watching celebrations is too much to bear. And always in the back of my mind is the question, the only question - how far is it away?

I know where you are coming from. If the dogs win we will go straight to the too hard basket...the most unfortunate supporters.

Re: The worst day of the year!
I have been at the last 5 grand finals and it has been a lot of heartbreak.
Particularly as we were in winning positions in all but the 2010 replay.
I am forever hopeful that we will be there again with a better result.

I'll be devastated if the Dogs win. Would not be fair for them to have it that easy - one granny and a win. I'll feel a lot better with a Swines win and seeing them suffer some of our pain. The Fireman wrote:I know where you are coming from. I actually wonder if the Swans win by a truckload if it will hurt the Dogs next year??

Ironically its my favorite weekend of the year for another reason - Daylight Saving (or fake time) doesn't start here in QLD WOOHOO!!
Love the whinging. Every year the same rubbish. I thrive on it
Re: The worst day of the year!
2009 - Anger, we should have won! Choked in the first half...
2010 - shattered! Didn't deserve it, almost stole it off the worst enemy, there were heroics, and I thought we had it for a couple of minutes!!!
Luke Ball
Plays more in the last half we win... Played 37 mins out of 90 after quarter time. With NO physical issue.
In 2010 he is at StK and not Lovett - We win

We have always been that bit better than the Dogs in the last 20 years. If they win today it will be a huge kick in the guts for St Kilda supporters. I hope and pray that the Saints will win the premiership soon because at 53 nearly 54 I'm running out of time.

Re: The worst day of the year!
I had mixed emotions last weekend when the dogs got in about them potentially winning it and leaving saints the only team with 1 premiership, however after thinking about it I think me not wanting them to win is more about trying to keep my club's inability to win premierships not look so bad by keeping other down with us.
We all know how 5pm felt in 1997,2009,2010 and even to a lesser extent 2004 when we should have beaten Port the week before. We can only imagine what it would have felt like had those days been different, however it wasn't and to provide Dogs fans the opportunity to feel what we didn't would be a good thing, especially as they have suffered as much, if not more than us with 7 losing prelims.

Re: The worst day of the year!
Good to see you back, Spetchman. Have you been on sabbatical at BF? I think we sank in the mud, and stood on every grave in an ancient American Indian graveyard that had several Chinamen buried in it. Like others on here, GF day triggers many bad memories. Seen my team in 5 GFs without saluting once. As mentioned earlier we were in a strong position in all but one. Did you realise we've led late in the last quarter in three of them? 1997 we were down by less than two goals at 3/4 time. Only the 2010 replay were we not right in it towards the end.Dr Spaceman wrote:Think we sank in the mud and broke through the lid of the coffinThe Fireman wrote:why us ? did we collectively walk over a chinamans grave ?longtimesaint wrote:I have been at the last 5 grand finals and it has been a lot of heartbreak.

Just one. That's all I want. Is that too much to ask? As saints we must have a collective case of PTSD caused by GFs of the past. I don't know if I can even watch today. If the Bullies win at their first attempt in 55 years, I'll do a Terry Wallace and "fair dinkum spew up". Nothing against the doggies, but if they do win, it will be proof positive that we are cursed. Just watched the doco on the 2010 GF and realised how damn unlucky we were not to win that. Robbed by the gods of luck again.
I started with nothing and I've got most of it left!

Re: The worst day of the year!
Certainly a day of bad memories.
Was very nervous for the dogs but nothing like the cold sweat our grannies produced.

Re: The worst day of the year!
The Dogs get into a Grand Final 55 years after their last appearance, 62 years after their first flag, and win, i know a club that has been runner up 4 times since their only flag and have somehow choked on each occasion.
Oh Well, chin up, we may fluke another flag, one day!

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?
