Re: Acres
Agreed. Is really starting to consolidate. Good size and moves very well.MC Gusto wrote:What a great last third of the season. Becoming a dominant midfielder. His dash through the middle today was very exciting

Re: Acres
Makes some errors from time to time but his positives are off the charts.
Some of his left foot kicks were lace out. His ability to break tackles = elite.
Can also take a mark in the fwd 50 which is rare for a genuine mid (Lenny and Dal couldn't do it).
Could be anything. Seems happy and confident in his footy.

Re: Acres
Everything is improving off the charts these last couple of months...except his field kicking. He still butchers it too often. Not just that they're not lace out, but completely butchered.
I'm really impressed with his positioning around the ball and his ability to get himself to the right spot. Just tidy up that disposal and he'll be very good.

Re: Acres
I was amused when he copped a blast from Jack Newnes for not hand-balling to another Jack who was running beside him. There is never any point in hand-balling to someone next to you if you are already clear. Especially if you then, like Blake did, kick it 60 metres to a teammate who goals. Momentum can break many tackles, but not all. Core strength improvement will boost that percentage. But raising his hands to give off a handball is something he might like to learn from videos of the master (Robert Harvey) or someone like Scott Pendlebury of the current crop. Blake's height helps.

Re: Acres
I remember when he first started he just seemed so slow. Jogged around and got caught with the ball. I wondered what all the fuss was about. He has really become accustomed to the speed now and is starting to shine.

Listening to SEN I think it was Maher who compared him to (or should say reminded him of) Lenny Hayes, referring to the way he moves his body around traffic and lopes about.

Re: Acres
Bartel was on ABC and he said that he was really impressed with the way we are developing a feel for the game in that as a team we now know when to break hard and when to slow the tempo down and get control when required - a sign of a very good side he said
The Devil makes work for idle hands!!!
Re: Acres
I saw today that the the players are bonding together.Which I havent seen for a few years.

Re: Acres
The scary thing is I feel like Blake is only a 2 quarters player at the moment. He tends to play full on early, runs out of the gas in the middle and drops back to 3rd (even 2nd) gear, before getting a second wind. If he can get his fitness to the point he can run hard for 4 quarters he could be a huge force for us. And its so pleasing to see his disposal getting better by the week. He seems much less panicy and is finding his range with his kicking. It can be hard for powerful guys to find their feel with their distribution as they are not the most delicate touch but Blake looks like he's getting confidence to really kick through it now.

Re: Acres
I'm not convinced it's fitness related, at least not fully. He seems to have lapses in concentration or effort more than exhaustion. At least that's what it appears like as an outsider.Bluthy wrote:The scary thing is I feel like Blake is only a 2 quarters player at the moment. Re: Acres
Love this kid. Just his willingness to take the game on and that rare ability to shrug off tackles and keep his feet.
He's one of those players that you will have to forgive the occasional blunder, though. He'll more than make up for them. That's the nature of being a doer.

That's right. He can only go back to Sundy!Con Gorozidis wrote:I agree with that. I see the similarity. But one difference is Blake can go fwd and Mundy cant.Devilhead wrote:On ABC Radio they compared him to David Mundy

Spot on assessment, the only thing I'd add is he works on his disposal as well

Re: Acres
He has surpassed even my lofty expectations , his improvement is quite dramatic, everyone would have to be happy with our young player development, in general it's been more than hoped for right across the board.... We're doing a lot right
