The biggest positive is our season.

No-one on this forum including me gave us any chance of playing finals footy and we almost did.

No-one on this forum thought we would win as many games as we have.

So we have something to build on in 2017.

But the Sydney game highlighted some glaring deficiencies as well. We badly need defenders.

While I have nothing but praise for Chips, Geary and Dempster, these guys at best have only one season left in their careers.

Hugh Goddard is going to be good for us but we desperately need a fit, firing and motivated Jake Carlisle and a Hurley type defender down back.

Lee and Delaney clearly can't cut it at the highest level and won't be with the Saints next year IMO.

We need someone capable of keeping a Buddy Franklin quiet.

We also need another Jack Steven type midfielder. Maybe that is Freezer or recruiting another gun midfielder from another club and we need to keep developing the midfielders we have. Until we can mix it with the Hannebery's and the Parkers and the Kennedy's and the S. Mitchell's and the Dangerfields and the Sloan's the Saints are never going to be serious flag contenders.

The moral is keep developing the talent we have and make sure we land some All Australian big names in the off season.

Umpire Nicholls can pay his kids school fees with the bribe.
Positive for him

If you add his winnings from getting his rellos to bet on the match, he had a profitable weekend. :D

VFL -JWeb 27 touches, Sinclair 25. Caveman 4 goals
Web is in my best 22, tough like Wright, hope he's picked this week;
Sinclair may replace Meatball?
Shenton may always just be a good VFL player

I too see the Lenny in this kid - not his toughness just his movement with ball....very similar....
He's class will be a gun.

Wish Billings would lift but I do wonder at this level if he just not big enough to go into the middle.

Acres - doesn't look like a rookie anymore. He looks like he belongs.

Actually blown away with Acres progress in a dozen games, he didn't look phased and took them on, I think next season he will be a very damaging player, has great poise and a good footy brain, just needs games under his belt and a nice big pre season

Paddy's two shots were beautifully struck and never looked like missing.

Gears is only 28 - and has been pretty durable thru his career. I'd expect him to have another 3 or 4 seasons at least....these young defenders will do well to have a cool head around to show them the way

Shinner's goal.

Acres. He has the same fluid grace that Georgie Young was blessed with.

Now if he is half as good......

Gears has a good 4 to 5 years left in him.. Thankfully. Dempster maybe one last hurrah. Chips unfortunately is cooked.

Now steady on , Saynta ! I can accept likening Acres to Lenny, but not to the great number 27 !! First let's see him float across packs and take one-grab marks. Then let's see him hit his teammates with precision passes. Finally let's see him average 2.7 goals a game for over 100 games. Oh , and cut out the cheapies into the opponents' guts - neither George nor Lenny ever got into that stuff.

What he does have that both George and Lenny had is the ability to find space in traffic. He is still a work in progress in that regard, but it is coming .

Acres and Gresham - could be exciting .
