Re: Cyril.
By far the most skillful footballer I have seen play the game since Doc Baldock, and in a class of his own regards the best going around in the modern game.
And I don't care if posters don't agree with me.

Bring back the Lockett era
Re: Cyril.
Well Jarman and Winmar were midfilders who got it 25 times a game and were top shelf finishers, if not more skill full. Cyril is a forward pocket who impacts at times.
Milne, Betts, Stevie J and Le Cras not much different. Just because you look great, doesn't mean you are great...he's a good player... I could name 40 better in the AFL right now.
Jarman won 3 b&fs
Winmar won 2 b&fs
Cyril ZERO best and fairests not sure he's even been top 5?

Re: Cyril.
I'm sure his 21 team mates helped him get those... Don't you think??
Flags don't make great players... They indicate great teams
Cyril is a forward pocket... 15ppg 1.5gpg
Never transitioned to the midfield
Never kicked bags consistently
Often does nothing
Overhyped
Is take Betts, Milne of Farmer

Arguing that he's not the best player in a 3 peat premiership team doesn't really add much to ur argument BM

Re: Cyril.
Winmar: 1.26 goal average, 19.92 disposal average (and few of them ineffective)
Rioli: 1.42 goal average, 15.49 disposal average.

Re: Cyril.
Winmar was a wingman... And not in the time when teams racked up 400ppg and mids average 28
Winmar was a shitload better than Cyril is... I'd like to know which skill Cyril was better?? Ball getting clearly not one, as you point out!

More skilful than
Greg Williams, Tony Lockett, Gary Ablett, Simon Black, Peter Hudson, Kevin Bartlett, Scott Pendlebury, Gary Junior, James Hird, Wayne Carey, Nathan Buckley, Matthew Pavlich, Chris Judd, Sam Mitchell

As I said, the most skilled player I have seen since the doc.
I didn't say the best FOOTBALLER
That I reserve for Plugger
Re: Cyril.
To suggest Cyril Rioli is as skilful as Greg Williams is laughable

Rioli has an amazing talent to impact a game at crucial stages. I'm not sure that he'd be the VERY best, but WOW he is GOOD!

Hated him. I love seeing Rioli play. Never got one moment of joy seeing Williams play except for the day he got rubbed out for shoving an umpire.
Not in the same league when you are talking about wow factor.
Cyril can turn a game with ten minutes of brilliance. Williams could never do that.
By the time Rioli has finished playing, my views, which I might add, many share, will be more than vindicated.
Look, you have your opinions, I have mine.
Nothing you post will change that,

Re: Cyril.
I went to watch the Swans v Hawks (yes I live in Sydney) the other week and our seats were near the fence. I specifically watched Cyril in traffic and just wow
Quite simply Cyril is sensational, I used to sit a little where Bigmart sits on this but boy have I changed this year. BM you defeat your own argument by bringing possessions into it. I would take 15 from Cyril over 30 from most others every day of the week.

Re: Cyril.
Never said he was the very best, only the best player in the best team of the last decade.( I actually said 21st century). There are/have been better players, but none more skillful.. IMHO of course.thejiggingsaint wrote:Rioli has an amazing talent to impact a game at crucial stages. I'm not sure that he'd be the VERY best, but WOW he is GOOD!
I love watching him play.
I think you could even mount a case that with Cyril, a fourth flag is a definite possibility, without him, merely a chance.

Re: Cyril.
For his ability to turn a game, Rioli is certainly a standout.
But he is inconsistent, and certainly no more skillful than many others I've seen. He's also the type of player who benefits enormously from playing in a good team, which he has been lucky to do his whole career.
Had he played for the Lions, he would not be regarded in the same way. Nothing to do with winning premierships - he's just the sort of bloke who performs better with other good players around him.

Re: Cyril.
I would argue the opposite, I reckon players like Breust and Poppy are better players because of his presence in the teamLegendary wrote: he's just the sort of bloke who performs better with other good players around him.

Most skilful player I have seen outside of saints is D Jarman. Definately the most damaging player followed by Carey. Would take both b4 cyrilBigMart wrote:More skilful than
