Joey is cooked? Time to hang em up?
guys cooked or seems to be not trying...
Loved his work over the years but he's not in it imo. Savage I'm still not convinced.
Back on topic, Joey time to commit or move on, we can't afford some of these non-efforts and mistakes at critical times.

savage missed Rooey twice in a row. For somebody supposedly blessed with kicking skills, he needs to practice these skills more

Personally i'm pissed we dropped minch for Sav this game. Sure Minch goes missing but he's a great user and his few normally are quality and lead to positive outcomes. also he is a pressure machine.WellardSaint wrote:savage missed Rooey twice in a row. Richo play minch on the bloody ball as he does in the VFL......................

If he does it will be for about three minutes, then back to being a defensive forward..Saint_J wrote:Personally i'm pissed we dropped minch for Sav this game. Last night it was "rooting" for a team and now "pissed" instead of pissed off!
Re: Joey is cooked? Time to hang em up?
What a load of s***. He makes some errors because he actually does high risk/high reward kicks. Read the below and you might understand how important he is to us
http://www.saints.com.au/news/2016-07-2 ... n-bulldogs
Veteran playmaker Leigh Montagna has gone about his business with minimal fuss this year, acquiring plenty of ball across half-back and on a wing at different times. The 32-year-old has been a paragon of consistency in 2016, rarely having an off day. In fact, only once has he dipped below the 20-possession threshold. He is averaging 26.8 possessions (No. 2 at St Kilda) at an efficiency rate of 77.6 per cent, 3.6 inside 50s (No. 4) and 3.3 rebound 50s (No. 4), along with a massive metres gained mileage of 526.0 metres (No. 7 in the AFL). Along with Shane Savage, Montagna is critical to St Kilda’s ball movement. His decisions play a vital role in setting up forays forward. With a year to run on his current contract, and seemingly plenty of run still in his old legs, could he become the 6th Saint to reach the magical 300-game barrier? Ponder that

Would need another two years to get to 300 games.
Currently sitting on 266.

He plays the easiest role in footy... He should always have big numbers.
It's the important plays that he needs to deliver on... As a senior player

He does make some annoying mistakes , but he's a keeper for the moment.Saint_J wrote:guys cooked or seems to be not trying...

Just watching the replay. Can't underestimate how important he is to the kids. Before they walked up the race onto the ground he was getting around every single player. Granted he's had a couple of less than spectacular games in the last few weeks but he is still so important to the group.

Re: Joey is cooked? Time to hang em up?
True. Good post. He goes missing in important plays. I felt both his 2009 and 2010 finals series were lacking and that was during his prime, so seeing him be a spectator now while the kids are developing and making the match winning plays themseles is a bit disappointing.BigMart wrote:He plays the easiest role in footy... Re: Joey is cooked? Time to hang em up?
Sure. He does that well but he needs to show this in the main plays onfield and he rarely does that. In interstate games he is really poor unfortunately.SemperFidelis wrote:Just watching the replay. Re: Joey is cooked? Time to hang em up?
I agree, Joey has been playing bruise free footy for the last 6wks and his decision making is absolutely terrible.
Has been a terrific servant for the club, but I think this year should be his last.

Re: Joey is cooked? Time to hang em up?
Have loved Joey over the years but I do think this should have been his last year.
His kicks are beginning to show a distinct lack of penetration.
Club see it different though as he's contracted to play next year

Good clubman but the way the team is developing by playing next year he will delay the development of another kid's career. The great Harvs had a lot more upside in his last year in 2008. Played a pretty good finals series and still retired. Montagna was always an outside player but now he really stands out with his soft bruise free footy.

And yet he copped a cork quad. He was never as good as some imagined and he is not as bad as others (or the same people) imagine now. He is playing a different role and I think he is playing it well, as experience counts.SuperSaint wrote:.. but now he really stands out with his soft bruise free footy.
