Fletcher end!!!
What is it with the AFL bending over for the injectors?
First they re-named the Coventry end and then they have the temerity to cover over Plugger's end.
Would he have gotten away with a Frawley end?

Re: Fletcher end!!!
Well to be fair, we've renamed Brownlow Medalist Jobe Watson.
*Allegedly.

Yeah, all a bit rich and demonstrates Essendon's total disrespect for the rest of the competition.

Re: Fletcher end!!!
The home team can rename the ends and decorate the stadium how they like.
We could do a lot more in this area.
For example
- rename the ends (one should be The Milne end - he has kicked the most goals at Docklands)
- and possibly the wings (the Robert Harvey wing at aisle 35?)
- and hang giant portraits from the rafters like the Dogs do (for all our 300 gamers and/or Brownlow medallists)?

The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.

Re: Fletcher end!!!
Maybe I'm showing my age, but I think it's just wrong.
By all means decorate the stadium to make it feel like 'home' but to 'cover up' the names of AFL Legends is taking it too far IMHO.
How would the MCG/AFL react if we renamed the Ponsford stand when we played our home game against Collingwood earlier this year?
The AFL went to the trouble of honouring Coventry and Lockett by naming the ends - why should anybody cover those honours up?

Because it's their home game and Lockett or Coventry have nothing to do with them probably

Absolutely disrespectful by a club that thinks it's above the rules.
The two ends are named after the two greatest goalkickers the game has produced.
Once Essendon produces a goal scorer that goes past them, then they can mount a case to rename one of the ends.

Re: Fletcher end!!!
So I take it you have no problem with them renaming stands at the MCG hen they play a home game there?BigMart wrote:Because it's their home game and Lockett or Coventry have nothing to do with them probably
The Ponsford Stand could be renamed the Hird Stand
The Members could be renamed to The Reynolds
The Southern Stand could be renamed the Windy Hill Stand
The AFL Members could be renamed 'The Esendonians
etc.
Personally I have no issue if they wish to name something that currently has no name attached to it (like the wings at Etihad) but I draw the line with replacing names that have been 'honoured' or officially 'named'.
Where do you draw the line with what is ok?
Can they rename Etihad to Windy Hill when they play their hoe game there?

Re: Fletcher end!!!
Why the worry about a stupid name sign?
I've never understood why a Melbourne stadium has an end named after a Sydney footballer!
