The best thing out of today
Like the good golfers who scramble up a reasonable score around par when they're playing poorly, we cobbled together a win when we played badly. The other thing is that even terrible teams like the bummers get up for some games. Think Fitzroy, 1996, ourselves in 1986, etc. We gave them a sniff up to 3/4 time and I admit I was worried they would really get their tails up at the thought of a possible win. When they led by 7 in the last I thought they might go on with it. The positive I take out of this is that we fought back and won in relative comfort in the end. A bit like the Fremantle and Geelong games. Shows we can produce when we really need to. That's the best I can come up with out of today.
I started with nothing and I've got most of it left!

I did. Too easy to discredit the Bummers effort, their pressure was very good. The Fireman wrote:is that I didn't pay good money to go and watch it.
And thd Saints of old would have capitulated. We were good when we needed to be.

Re: The best thing out of today
Best thing was the 4 points .
The hawks this year have played many average games but have still won .
And sit on top of the ladder .
So when we play average and get a win , you hope the players got something out of it .
You take the four points and move on .
when you watch the replay the next day , you tend to look at the game differently (as you know the result) and see that the team actually played better than you thought ,

I did too and I agree with everything you said, Trev. I thought we were gone, and that they would win on crowd momentum. The fact that they didn't is something we can take out of it as a plus.Trev from the Bush wrote:I did. Good teams win games when not playing their best footy. Wins like these are a learning experience for when we actually become a good team one day.

The four points are a complete load of s*** when you aren't making the finals… the ladder is in reverse.
Pick 4 is better that pick 7.
We were putrid and deserved to lose to a complete bunch of hacks.
The 4 points was the worst thing to come out of today.

Re: The best thing out of today
Well, at least we can say we've done better than any of the preceding three years. 7 wins against 6.5 last year and we still have 7 to go, 5 of which look very winnable. Despite today's less than impressive effort, we have been steadily improving over the past three years. Even the red hot GWS had great difficulty fighting off the bummers recently. As bad as the bummers are on paper, they've impressed on occasions this year. Not a great performance today, but hardly shameful.

We are so hot cold - next week we will probably see McCartin Billings and Sinclair back in the team and we will likely be hot and win well

All depends on which saints and demons team shows up. Could go either way in big margins.Devilhead wrote:We are so hot cold - next week we will probably see McCartin Billings and Sinclair back in the team and we will likely be hot and win well

Re: The best thing out of today
For GA the entire wing sections were booked out by Essendon members who didn't show up.
They forced us to sit behind the goals multiple rows back.
Got a very good view of the empty seats on the wings from there!

The "four points" weren't front of mind after that fantastic effort… that was a great win against a good team.kosifantutti wrote:You must have been gutted when we beat Geelong.dragit wrote:The four points are a complete load of s*** when you aren't making the finals… the ladder is in reverse.

Tonight's win was a bit like eating your own vomit for dinner.
