Re: Moorabbin plans lodged
I know it's a training facility, but I'd still like to see more emphasis given towards spectators. Much of that comes in how you allocate space.
We want to be playing NAB challenge/VFL/Women's AFL games there from 2018 and filling it out nicely.
Also looks just a touch modern/homogeneous. Would have loved the styling to have incorporated the old Moorabbin feel in a structural sense.
Probably being a bit picky, but we're talking about our home here, and I want to be very house-proud after so long without.

Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.

Wont be able to please all the supporters who will have vastly different ideas of how it should look. If it's modern and has all the facilities we need, with room to expand, I'll be happy. Love the integrated concept with all levels of footy and netball as well. Agree it would be great if it caters to spectators too.

Yes it has to please Saints fans.
But reality is that it has to please the Council. And the local residents. And the ratepayers. And the other stakeholders.
Fail to do that and the whole thing could fall flat on its face.

Re: Moorabbin plans lodged
If it looked 1% like the dump that was MO .. Mike Brady would have to be the developer. It would be a joke. It's an Elite Training Facility and Community Facility. Not a footy oval designed to host games.
It was sold to the local government as a community hub, to gain funding.
I doubt it if a game will ever be played there in season IMO
We will play VFL out of TBBO for a while yet IMO
They are trying to broker a long term deal at the moment.
In the plans do you see a grandstand, any seats, toilets outside of facility, scoreboard, canteen??

I wonder if tbe journos followed up the clubs jumping on extra pokies last week , or the 300 + machines Carlton have
It does say ( I cant copy from phone) that St Kilda is a very minor player in the pokies field

Re: Moorabbin plans lodged
I know it's not trendy to say this, but I hope our pokies revenue significantly increases with the new development. If it doesn't, we may as well sell off the licences. They have bee underperforming for many years prob due to the very shoddy state of Moorabbin.
Also, the $5M funding required by our wealthy supporters is partly true - at the members meeting someone asked if we could all chip in - club said their advice was it works better to quietly fundraise from select supporters and then launch a more general appeal if it falls short.
I think a lot of members would like to chip in given the opportunity!

Hey kids - a bit of light reading for those who care....
The floor plans and works to the oval that were included in the council permit, from Kingston Council website

I don't follow?
If you are out buying a house do you base it on 1960 as well?
Moorabbin was originally built for the 60's as a Home ground for VFL game, a SC including Squash Court etc and a Bowling Club.
Our needs are vastly different now. Vastly.
Technologies, building materials and building services are all massively different now as well.
Let's build state of the art as that will advantage us the most. I am sure there will be some homages to our history incoporated into the complex.
Flying the World in comfort thanks to FF Points....

thanks St Chris
here is the lst comment in the article I linked
.St Kilda is a minor player in the AFL industry’s pokies habit, claiming just $1.25m in social club revenue in 2015

Is the Huggins Stand being left?
They should also leave the terracing (and the races) where the Animal Enclosure was.

The terraces were gotten rid of years ago .
There are still gaps in the fence where the two players races were , that's the only way you can tell where the animal enclosure was .

Re: Moorabbin plans lodged
Moorabbin was a shithole and the grandstand was condemned it was so stuffed!
We need to get as far away from the former Moorabbin Oval facilities as possible... Horrendous!
Do we understand it's not being developed as a footy ground for games, but moreso a training and HQ
