POLL: Should we request more interstate games next year?

Post: # 1623418Post saintspremiers »

IMO the club needs to face it's fears head on and ask the AFL to give us at least 7 trips (maybe 8) interstate next year.

We need to grow a pair and make a statement to the players that if they think they can just turn up at Etihad or the G and all will be good they are for a ruder shock next year.

5 interstate games this year and no more interstate for the rest of the season

I've posted this before (a long time ago) but I will post it again.
The decision made almost 20 years ago now is still stuffing up our club (and always will). Hawthorn got it right and St Kilda got it wrong.....
.
.
.
.
.
When Waverly Park was bulldozed they chose the MCG and we chose the Docklands. I'm not saying that we should move all our Home games to the MCG but we should at least play 4 there......

5 Home games at Docklands.
4 Home games at the MCG.
2 Home games in New Zealand.

I don't want St Kilda to be known as a hard team to beat at Docklands. I want St Kilda to be known as hard team to beat at the MCG because that is where the Grand Final is played. And playing only 1 or 2 at the 'G' per year does not fill me (or more importantly the players) with any confidence. Football for 100 years was an outdoor game yet St Kilda play most of their games indoors.

So to answer this poll, No to more interstate games and Yes to more MCG/Outdoor games for St Kilda.

Yes. To be a top side we need to be able to perform interstate. Isn't that obvious ?

Doesn't really matter this year or maybe next, but if we are to be making finals in 2018 and hitting our straps that means winning on the road. Going beyond 2018, it's pretty hard making top 4 without this.

We should ask for more games at Coburg where we have a perfect record.

We will finish bottom 6 and three of the other bottom 6 teams are non-Vic sides, so we'll probably play all of them interstate anyway. We're bound to cop Port and the Crows in SA as we always seem to do. Don't see the point in asking for any more.
The players can redeem themselves on a cold, wet and windy MCG in August against Carlton and Richmond. Those games will be tough enough. And that is where the Grand Final is played.

Well if we get 6 interstate that's better than 5 but 7 is ideal IMO.

We play the MCG quite well recently. That's not our issue.
