Re: Hurley!!!!!
So we're off Hugh Goddard?
I think the club has Hugh earmarked to 'compliment' Jake Carlisle.
Hurley is a huge in... For another tall back
Do many successful teams have there two highest paid players in key defensive posts?

Re: Hurley!!!!!
Our young midfield is developing nicely and with the retirement of some of our older players + our current cap space we have plenty of room to trade for a gun Defender and another 2 experienced gun mids in the next few yearsBigMart wrote:So we're off Hugh Goddard?

In all likelihood we will be playing finals next year and if not next year then definitely the year after - whilst the inclusion of Carlisle will be a huge boost to our backline we are set to lose Fisher and Dempster and I think we need another strong marking mobile backman if we want to be Premiership contenders
Hugh just snapped his achilles and next year and the year after are still likely to be development years for him - as they say big guys take time
Sure Goddard will come on down the track (although not guaranteed) but currently even with Carlisle in the team our back line is not good enough to contend
Again I am not disputing the fact that we need more mids - we do but we also need another gun back - because if Carlisle goes down we are pretty thin down there - in terms of finals quality
Re: highest paid players and their positions - does it really matter as long as those players bring quality play? Do reckon anyone would care if we win a premiership?

Exactly - as can Bruce - our KP flexibility would be insane and would give plenty of teams headacheslongtimesaint wrote:Both are flexible and can play forward if required.BigMart wrote:So we're off Hugh Goddard?

Played mainly as a ruck man in the TAC Cup and probably undersized (198cm) for that position in senior footystonecold wrote:Just to throw another one into the mix, if we don't get Hurl's, what about Jack Leslie from Gold Coast?????
Has good speed and is a strong mark and his general skills are good for a big man but don't how suited/adept he is to playing down back - is only 21 though and a Victorian
A lot of development to go like Goddard

Re: Hurley!!!!!
Five year contract extension by bombers a last ditch effort to keep him, as they know they are up against it. This may rule the saints bid out, but don't disregard just yet!!!!!

Re: Hurley!!!!!
I reckon Sydney are the smokies for attracting Hurley - they have a rich history of stealing players like this. Hence they are keen to move on Tom Mitchell which will free up cap space and give them a 1st round pick from the Hawks etc. Richards and Grundy and on their last legs is the perfect recruit for them.

Re: Hurley!!!!!
You might be onto something there, Mitchell won't free up much salary cap room, but with Richards going that will free up some more, they would need to shed a fair bit more to fit him in though, Sydney would be a good spot for Micheal as he tends to shed away from the limelight!!!!!Impatient Sainter wrote:I reckon Sydney are the smokies for attracting Hurley - they have a rich history of stealing players like this. In afl footy
Midfields are everything!!!
No matter how good your defense is... If you mids are getting flogged, you can't defend effectively
No matter how good you forwards are ... If your mids aren't giving supply, you can't score effectively

Re: Hurley!!!!!
Why comment?
Want another round or will you crack it and start being abusive again?!
Do you actually agree or disagree with the (fairly obvious) comment.
Your little infatuation with me is flattering

Re: Hurley!!!!!
Because I'm trying to get you to realise that you often post off-topic in your normal imperceptive way. Why the hell are you going on about Mids here? Enquiring minds want to know.BigMart wrote:Why comment?

And you're the one who started hurling the personal abuse just because your favourite player wasn't fetted as the greatest backman of all time by my little old me and you can't stand that. Just proved to me that you couldn't argue your case. But as usual don't worry about facts or accuracy or even bothering to quote people via the quote button. Just live in your bubble on top of the mountain and bring down the BM commandments Moses style with a deathless certainty.
Re: Hurley!!!!!
Is that your job or the mods? Or do you just want to engage in a pissing contest?!
Not even sure why it's off topic
Hurley is a key defender
My inference that money would be better spent in the middle of the ground where we are poor
Again
Agree or disagree??

Re: Hurley!!!!!
Are you 10 years old? Seriously
My favourite current players are Weller, Armitage and Roo for a start
Fisher is one of StKildas greatest ever players... His record states that
You point is what??

Re: Hurley!!!!!
There you go. More personal abuse. That's all you can resort to when you can't make your case. Very sad. I shall do the mature thing and ignore your shallow desperate insults. I am bigger than that and know I am in the right. Have a splendid night. #highroadedBigMart wrote:Are you 10 years old? Seriously

ps no I actually don't think mids are the be all and end all but start another topic if you wish to discuss what is clearly an off-topic subject. Let Stonecold enjoy his rather desperate attempt to get a trade prediction right to gloat about for years

Re: Hurley!!!!!
"swingman" a term so 2013
the only clubs with swingmen are those who struggle and don't know what their best 22 is, and like to use the term as a defence for their weaknesses
Lachie Henderson was considered a great swingman , how did that work out for him at Carlton? Now, nicely settled as the third defender at Geelong
