Hard and tough

Post: # 1622233Post BigMart »

I remember back in the 2000s under GT and Ross that Whilst we were a good team... Teams hated playing us

We were manic in the attack on the footy (it did cause a lot of injuries)

But we had a lot of courageous and/or hard at it players
Hayes, Hudghton, Blake, Voss, Powell, R. Clarke, Ball, Baker, McQualter, Maguire, Riewoldt, Kosi, Hamill, Gilbert, CJ
None of these players took a backward step or shirked

Now we have
Obviously still Roo and Gilbo
But other aggressive and courageous players
Armo, Weller, Steven, Newnes, Wright, Bruce, Membrey, Gresham, Paddy, Dempster, Webster

Who do we rate the toughest
In the other team, hard to go past Hayes
In this team
Weller, Armo, Webster maybe... Wright is a nutcase

Great post! I was just thinking like wise. I love that we are building a team of tough hard nuts!! Not dirty, but geez our forward line will be imposing, even in another 12 months, but say in 3-4 years when Bruce, Paddy, Skunk and the smalls have really filled out and and hardened right up from the gym and natural growth development...I'm smiling at the thought of us being bully boys :-))

Right across the board, there are tough hard at it players and the best thing is, we seem to have a great team spirit and unity. Dunstan and Ross will be very solidly built men, newnes and webster aren't huge, but are very hard at the ball and man. Lonie has mongrel, Gresham has mongrel, Mav is a built like a sherman tank.

Good times ahead!!

Wright is fearless but a little too reckless which can cause him further injuries. Mav looks like the toughest bloke in the team, just an absolute monster!

Wright is certified mad. But we love him for that. He's probably out for a good month due to his popped shoulder.

Just watched the first half on the replay.

Nathan Wright was terrific. Played like he was playing for his career. And he was. A real desperado, gutsy as.

He's a freight train. Plugger reincarnated. But can't go past Webster as the toughest. He's as mad as a cut snake.

Another one with a manic approach is Dan McKenzie. His attack on the ball and opposition reminds me of Aaron Hamill. Looks like Richo is trying to build a whole team of them. In the very near future sides will know they've played a game against the Saints.

Mav is the man for me. They rarely get past him and he is rarely stopped from the front. He is a fearless and very good mark running both ways and takes them on and palms them off.

He is also a great kick.

iwent through our list and I can't find a single player that you could call even a little soft. Every one of them you would be confident that when it was their turn to go they wouldn't blink an eye. Even the little blokes like Lonie and Gresham are hard at it
It's a great foundation to building a successful team

Savage is very outside, Acres makes some poor efforts (more to do with effort than courage)

Joey is tougher than you think

Webster has a fair bit of white line fever.

It's a pretty hard team.

You might or might not be surprised that our toughest player on the field is the same bloke none of the lads wanted to sparr in pre-season boxing.

Ah sorry.
Mav trains at Moorabbin Boxing Gym and from all reports scares the crap out of the guys when he has gloves on.
