Certainly Eli and Broadie have done their chances no harm in terms of earning a recall...
Eli I've always thought was a cut above VFL, Murdoch though looks to me like he's stepped his game up a bit... Hope he gets another season

As many have pointed out White, NOK and Couglin all look really good.

Shenton to me is the type of player who has found his level... He was dangerous today but I reckon his attributes aren't good enough to go to the next level. Pbly say the same about Saunders too.

Yeah but its depth sitting in the VFL. YOu need to see how that scales upto AFL.
Sure. But most of the depth I'm talking about has been playing games for our seniors this year and can't hold a spot or force their way back in (even in the face of our recent injuries). Can't say the same for the Blues.
To me there are two groups of these "depth" players. The first group have been on our list for a while - Shenton, Saunders, Curren, Murdoch, Minch. To me they artificially inflate our depth as they have big bodies and tanks to play well at VFL level but struggle to translate it to AFL level. They strengthen Sandy but not necessarily St Kilda even though they may get a game here or there in the seniors.

The next group are to me the more genuine depth players as they still have genuine promise of being able to bloom to an AFL level - White, Rice, Coughlan, Eli, Sincs, NOK etc.

Fan of White but thought today was the worse game he's played.
Btw
Who do you think is bigger
Brandon White or Jimmy Webster?

If you Googe Brandon White you'll be surprised... Maybe interested?

Impressive
Eli - 36
Brodie White - perhaps his best game in the VFL - 25 kicks
NOK - 26 + 3
JBT - gave away a few frees and 50s (couple unlucky) but lined up on 197cm Jones and surely had his highest possession game ever... Would have had 15 or more and took a number of marks
Holmes - a good game
Pierce - really good
OK
Saunders - relentless but untidy
McKenzie - ridiculous courage
Payne - pretty good late
Shenton - always decent at that level
Coughlin - fair
Average
White - lots of errors, is better than that but not a thinker
Sinclair - a bit disappointing, possibly tagged

From Sandy
LeGrice, Hayes, Answerth, Fisher quite impressive
Simpkin, Cooke, TDL good as always
Ong, Verma average

A very much weakened Sandy did alright against poor opposition
Although conversion woeful

Google "Brodie White". You'll be surprised.

Brodie White... A very one sided player, quite sting over head, very good left leg, medium Half Back

Which one am I referring?

I'm pleasantly surprised re the comments about JBT.
I'd assumed he was just a "token" NZ player. Will be interesting if he can keep improving.

Also nice to hear that Holmes took some contested marks.

Thanks for the reports.

I was surprised by Joe also

Last time I saw him play was in the preseason against Frankston in the Dev League
His team won by 12 goals and he couldn't get a kick and when he touched it, he stuffed it up!

Today he was very strong down back.

So we just pumped the Carlton twos? This has to be a good sign. I am convinced Eli is going to make it. Sign the kid up!

Eli was terrific - Again

Like Minch and Acres the play midfield in the VFL and get 30-40

The play forward pocket in the AFL and don't get many chances... And they just are asked to chase

Conspiracy time.
Does anyone else think Carlton probably cheated re drafting Jack Silvagni at pick 53?
Yes he was F/S but no club bid early to make Carlton pay fair price.
Silvagni kicked 7 in the TAC cup last year and then finished the season early for shoulder surgery.
Given Carlton's history of cheating and the fact cheating is in their DNA - was this a fix? Draft tampering?

I think you will find Essendon actually bid for him and Carlton had to match at 53

That is what I am saying. It was a late bid by Dodoro to keep Carlton honest.
He is clearly a a top 20-30 player. Did Carlton advise him to end his TAC season early?
Were other clubs too polite/sporting by not bidding earlier?
I like the father/son system but the way the system is set up means clubs are expected to pay fair value for f/s picks.
Just asking the question.

Nothing stood out as poor by Joe with the ball

He always took the safe option though, which indicates limitations

He marked it ok

Last time I saw him, it was his inability to get near the ball that was a worry

A glance at the scoreboard will tell a different story, but Sandringham showed its premiership credentials in Saturday’s 41-point win over Northern Blues.

Despite kicking 4.15 in the second half, including nine straight behinds, the game never slipped from the Zebras’ grasp.

Northern Blues came into the clash with their tails up, having defeated highly fancied Box Hill before the bye.

Sandringham may have lost this game 12 months ago. In fact, it did. The Zebras kicked 3.11 in the final quarter as Northern Blues snuck home by six points in Round 3 of 2015.

But there was no mucking around this time from Sandringham.

It wasn’t the prettiest game. There was no miraculous goal to front the highlights reel. There was no high flying mark. Arrive, get the job done, bank the four points and leave.

Sandringham are making their move after winning their seventh match from their last eight outings, with a comprehensive 40-point win over the Northern Blues at Preston City Oval on Saturday.
The Zebras, a premiership fancy during the pre-season, have jumped to third spot on the ladder – and coach Paul Hudson praised the group after a "tremendous performance".
It appears that, after a slow start to the season, the Zebras are within striking distance of ladder leader Casey and second-placed Williamstown as they look to advance further than a top four finish last season.
Certainly in an even season Hudson would be confident his team have the depth to make another top four assault. The alignment with St Kilda – which appears set to be extended at the end of the season – is evidently a strong one, headed by skipper Trent Dennis-Lane, who has been a steady head in front of goal this season.

St Kilda youngster Eli Templeton, who has made just two AFL appearances this year, racked up 36 disposals in his best game of the season, eclipsing his average of 30 disposals a game during the VFL season.
Templeton's work ethic around the stoppages was a major highlight, as was the work of Brodie Murdoch (29) and Josh Saunders (27).
Nick O'Kearney appears to be on the brink of AFL game time after an impressive three goals in the first half, before finishing with 27 touches.

He was an angry ant too. Gave away a few frees and got in the face of a few. Not many backward steps taken.
