The Danger zone
And how do we stop Gary Ablett's second (or third) coming from the Cattery?
Can the Gearbox go with him all day?
Do we need to play Wright as a pure run with tagger??

Re: The Danger zone
Tackle them hard !
North only laid 41 tackles in their match .
Dangerfield and selwood loved it racking up almost 90 disposals between them .
If we tackle them like we did to the blues we'll be a chance !

I'm assuming Roo & McCartin will be back. What's the prognosis on Fisher & Dempster? I reckon we neeed at least one of them back and we're a shot.

Re: The Danger zone
I remember Bernie Vince getting right under his skin with a tag simular to what the Blue Baggers did to Jack on Sunday, he got really pissed off . Ironically for what it's worth I think his only weakness his actually in his strength ....in that players like Dangermouse go forward full pelt . It could be a smart tactic to try to hurt him the other was in that his apponents ( whoever that is) spread hard in the opposite direction , Dangermouse won't turn around to chase and if we pressure upfield of him manically and we create a turnover with his apponents out the back, we can score on the rebound
Worth a try I think ... But I ain't no AFL coach.
So I'd mix it up between the two....

Head to Head
Steven
Danger is unaccountable... And unstoppable anyway
He'll get 40
Jack will get 35
Selwood vs Dustan/Armo

Re: The Danger zone
You could get Mav to do a hard tag on him? Weller certainly has the speed to keep up with him.

Re: The Danger zone
Not sure about going head to head. We can't expect Hickey to be as dominant as he was on the weekend. If the cats midfielders get decent service it could be flirting with danger (no pun intended).
Might need someone like Mav to run with him and keep him honest. At least make sure he's under some pressure when he gets it.

This seems the best choice to me..sainterinsydney wrote:You could get Mav to do a hard tag on him? Weller certainly has the speed to keep up with him.
Can someone explain to me why tagging is not used anymore?
In a case like Geelong, where they really are Dangerfield dependent, why not tag???
The rest of the team, we match up pretty well IMO
So, take him out of it... and Weller is as good a match up as possible

Re: The Danger zone
The matches that Geelong lost was because of fierce pressure.
Bring our best contested ball and we are a chance.
I hope so as I have hated Geelong since 2004! When they had the cheek to say they were the better team after we beat them for the night premiership.
I loved the fact that we played them the next week in round 1 and beat them by 10 goals.

Re: The Danger zone
Selwood, Guthrie, Motlop, Blicavs and Caddy are all capable of doing a lot of damage. You don't shut down Geelong by stopping DangerfieldSuperDuper wrote:This seems the best choice to me..sainterinsydney wrote:You could get Mav to do a hard tag on him? Re: The Danger zone
yes, they can do damage... but so can Steven, Armatage, Membrey etcc...Dangerfield is the one who can single handedly carry them... shut him down and you have a contest between two more evenly matched teams IMOmad saint guy wrote:Selwood, Guthrie, Motlop, Blicavs and Caddy are all capable of doing a lot of damage. Re: The Danger zone
This. We are evenly matched in the midfield except for that +1 in Danger or Selwood. You need to tag one of them. We can out pressure them. They dont handle it, their losses have shown this. Reckon we could easily pinch one here if we bring the intensity. I'm calling a bit of a roll after the bye. Just a feeling...SuperDuper wrote:yes, they can do damage... but so can Steven, Armatage, Membrey etcc...Dangerfield is the one who can single handedly carry them... shut him down and you have a contest between two more evenly matched teams IMOmad saint guy wrote:Selwood, Guthrie, Motlop, Blicavs and Caddy are all capable of doing a lot of damage. Re: The Danger zone
I know we can't stop all their playmakers BUT we must tag Danger for this one.
The obvious choice is Mav.
He was the best tagger in the comp in 2014 when he came to the saints.
In 2015 Richo like other coaches took the one-dimensional tagger out of the game and released Mav to a permanent forward/mid.
He has both the pace and strength to tag danger all day.
Plus I'm not sure if anyone knows but all year he has been Top 2 in kms run during the match so he has the endurance.
Time to bring back the tag v the Cats.

Re: The Danger zone
Yep, Danger needs to be tagged but i reckon next game and a few more this year will be lost at the selection table. The pressure was immense from some of the inclusions into the team last week. If cockroach does not see that in the review, then he's either compromised or we are tanking
This is hypothetical (because there's zero chance of this happening) but I'd love to see our forward line and midfield unchanged and I'd love us to perhaps only bring in Dempster and Chips if they're 100%. Maybe Lee, Delaney and Lewie out for Roo and the 2 experienced backmen. I didn't mind Wrighties game but unfortunately he may be dropped for Lonie who had a cracker in the magoos

Re: The Danger zone
I don't think that we afford "not to" tag Dangerfield. He is by far their top playmaker.
Selwood would be worth a tight tag at the centre bounces as well. Centre clearances are our weakest area (forget the Carlton game) and we need to be at the top of our pressure game in there.

Re: The Danger zone
Lets hope he gets a small injury next week against the dogs that keeps him out for a week. He needs a rest anyway.

Do we need to play Wright as a pure run with tagger??
Play Jason Holmes, tell him to play like a defensive end and run into Paddy at every opportunity!!!!!
Then after he gets weeks, shake his hand and say thanks for coming to Australia and trying AFL Footy

Re: The Danger zone
The reason why taggers dropped out is the umpires won't let you do what dirty Ling used to do and basically dedicate yourself to stopping an individual player by constant hassling and scragging. They won't let you drape yourself over players or grab them or stop them going at the footy. You can still run around with them - hence run-with players as they say now - but its a lot fairer for all players (and we want to see the superstars strutting their stuff) to go at the footy. So if you are a run with player you have to make sure you can still impact the game by winning your own footy and getting possessions instead of just playing negative all the time.
It would be a good learning lesson for someone like Acres to run with Danger and see just how hard he works and the patterns he runs on the field.

Like the kid and he may come on but he's way too slow.
The only run with players to shut Danger down would be Seb or Mav.

Re: The Danger zone
Unlikely. Last year Carlton were the only team coming off the bye to beat a team not coming off the bye. Teams coming off the bye lost by an average of 12.6 points.Devilhead wrote:Cats could be ripe for the picking - tough game against Bullies then a well rested Saints
