Re: Riewoldt playing on
With Roo playing on then Fisher should/will retire. We have to make sure that at least one oldie goes out each year. This will enable us to keep playing the youngsters and get them up to 100 games asap.

It would be crazy if Fisher goes on. I also think it wouldn't end well. He be either injured or playing VFL when Carlisle comes in. Would not be wise. He deserves better.citywest wrote:With Roo playing on then Fisher should/will retire. We have to make sure that at least one oldie goes out each year. I want both - they aren't mutually exclusive.8856brother wrote:Pretty simple really. We have had some of the most decorated players ever to play the game. Give me team success over personal achievements any day. Unfortunately for us he will still be the stand out leader next year. We have no obvious replacement.

That's fine, but that's where we are different. Only one concerns me.desertsaint wrote:I want both - they aren't mutually exclusive.8856brother wrote:Pretty simple really. Re: Riewoldt playing on
He was asked today about coaching in 2018 and he stated that it was his intention to still be playing in 2018.Con Gorozidis wrote:I am calling it. 0% chance he will play in 2018.Scollop wrote:For 2017 happy for Roo to play but we MUST transition.saintsRrising wrote:Why?SainterK wrote:Great stuff, hope he removes himself from captaincy contention next year though
Roo is a freak body wise and it is probably his knee that will eventually end his career. He has adapted to the roving wing role not just well, but brilliantly, playing arguably AA form in this role and may well play another 3 seasons if his knee holds out.
All the reports have him head and shoulders as the best captaincy material at the club. So why not go with the best, rather than second best?
3 years is a fantasy. 2 is a possibility. If his knee holds out and if he hangs in there for 2017 will we be a finals contender and if he holds out for another 2 years, what sort of shape do you think his body will be in towards the end of the season when and IF we are ready to challenge. Roo is now a roving midfielder-winger because? If you take off the rose coloured glasses and answer honestly you will come to the conclusion that he's there because we are 'fitting' him into the team. Yes he's holding his own, yes he's a champion and a smart footballer who can adapt, but once again the question begs to be asked. Are we holding back the midfields development?

Re: Riewoldt playing on
On the one hand I would love to see the name of the filthy country and western singing Bluebagger scumbag Stiiiiiiiiiiiks Kerrrrr Naaaa Haaaaaaan erased from the top of the record books with Riewoldt sitting for all eternity as the longest serving captain ever.
But on the other hand if we are building towards a 2020 vision then maybe we should anoint his replacement.
Jack Steven was the stand in skipper today and he played an absolute ripper. Kicked 3 great goals and was an inspiration in the middle.
He really put up his hand today to be the next captain.
Maybe they should strike a Kiribilli agreement and hand over the captaincy to Jack the week after Roo breaks the record?
