Saints Grand Final lineup in 2018
I know this will rile a few website warriors, but I'll go early and put this out there just to get some feedback.

I see Unsure is getting a game but what about Noone?
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”

Noone is perfect I've heard. Draft him with the first chance we get, I say.Jacks Back wrote:I see Unsure is getting a game but what about Noone?

if that's the team on the park in 2018 we'll go closer to winning a number one draft pick than a grand final.

Interesting that everyone seems to think we are going to draft or trade a new side by 2018.

Re: Saints Grand Final lineup in 2018
If we are to challenge in 2018, we need at least another 4-5 top liners added to the list. History tells us there'll be significant turnover in the next two years, with at least a dozen players being added/deleted. Over to you, trout and Ameet.

Re: Saints Grand Final lineup in 2018
Can't say I'm much of a fan of these crystal-ball-gazing threads.
So Hickey won't have what it takes to still be our starting ruckman in 2018?
The way Rooey has played this year, he could well want to stick around for 2018. The hope is to simply make the finals by then. Making a GF seems too ambitious at this stage. However, if you were to cast you mind back to 2002, we were in a similar position to what we're in now. Progress in 2002 happened very swiftly after that year to assure we'd not only make finals in 2004, but to also to only fall agonisingly short of a GF. So who's to say history is against us?

Isn't that for top 4 or just finals?lintonstreet wrote:Club's well publicised plan is 2018
For this to be like 2002 where is our newly drafted Gehrig AND Hamill?

We'd be bridesmaids again if this was our side, and 16 other teams would have to have been banned completely by WADA for us to even make the grandfinal.lintonstreet wrote:I know this will rile a few website warriors, but I'll go early and put this out there just to get some feedback.

Re: Saints Grand Final lineup in 2018
2018????
xxxxxxx Goddard xxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxx Carlisle xxxxxxxxxx
Freeman Armitage Acres
Billings McCartin xxxxxxxx
xxxxxx Bruce xxxxxxxx
Hickey Dunstan Steven
Longer Ross Newnes Gresham
So, on that basis we require 7 players of high quality, specifically defensive flankers and a 3rd tall defensive option plus forward flankers also capable of imposing in the mid field on rotation and a 3rd option tall forward (aka Roo).
Then we need depth (which will be tested on Sunday when, hopefully, some put their hands up to fill the gaps in 2018 and don't look backwards!!)

If we could get Unsures 5 brothers we would be in with a real chance. 3 of them are mids and the other 2 are 192 cm utilities.

Three points here:
1. Clearly not many people on this forum know of our Presidents 2018 Grand Final vision.
2. The only glaring oversight in your team for mine is Weller on the forward flank. He has been brilliant this year. Clearly just about the best defensive half forward in the league. His aggregate pressure acts for memory put him at number one and his set shots are very reliable - according to the man himself he is our Aaron Hamill.
3. I think Jimmy Webster is getting better each week and will be a great running defender for us.
