Call me one-eyed but after watching this... Rooey is just so much better, it's like comparing tap water with champagne!

Re: Riewoldt v Pavlich
For a long time I thought it was really hard to separate the two. Riewoldt being the more elite athlete and a better marking forward, but Pavlich being a more reliable set shot and more successful at playing both ends.freely wrote:http://www.afl.com.au/video/2016-05-25/ ... -v-pavlich

But, reflecting on both careers, Roo is the clear winner. The deviding factors are those stunning performances in both the 09 qualifying and preliminary final where he practically willed us over the line, being an AA forward and captian when we were wooden spooners in 2014 and the fact that he's still in close to career best form at the age of 33.

The last two years have extended the gap
Don't know about the distance but from the start of 2016 Roo has opened up a handy lead.
Feel sorry for Pav and a little surprised he didn't pull the pin at the end of last year. He has been one of the greats and deserves to be remembered as such.
I remember watching the great pacer Pure Steel struggling in the Inter-Dominion Consolation at Gloucester Park in Perth in 1982. Anybody with no sense of history would have dismissed him as an also ran instead of the champion who no longer had his great powers. I hope Pav doesn't end up like old Steelo; Roo certainly won't.

No comparison. The AFL website is having a laugh.
Riewoldt is nearly All Australian at the moment, Pavlich is struggling to hold his spot in the bottom side.

Yes Nick
But not by a mile
Pav has been a mighty player, for a long time. Superstar!
Nick clearly a better CHF
As an overall player, slightly better.
If the big 4 I have a slightly different rating to most
Riewoldt
Pavlich
Tredrea
Brown

Re: Riewoldt v Pavlich
Ro$$ Lyin hasn't extended Pav's career, he has diminished it. As soon as Lyin went to Freo he tried to play him as another Reiwoldt. Attempted to have him covering the territory Roo did in a game and bingo what happened - yep Achilles injury that put him out for a most of one season. After that injury, Pav shed about 6 kilos, possibly to assist him with all the running he was expected to do. He was no longer the Pav that had that strong explosive speed over the first 20 metres, who could play leading FF, CHF & was unstoppable on a lead. His short bursts through the centre as an onballer, where Harvey had played him very effectively for versatility were few & far between with Lyin's coaching.
Ever since Lyin's arrival at Freo, soft tissue injuries have dogged Pav - interesting since Lyin has left Saints, the soft tissue injuries haven't been so crippling for our Roo ........... just thinking???
Actually when Lyin arrived at Freo, after going to a few Freo matches and noticing the changed running style Pave was playing I said to my Freo supporting friends, I wouldn't mind betting Pave like Riewoldt with get soft tissue injuries with this new role he has to play.

Re: Riewoldt v Pavlich
I said in another post that Roo is possibly the greatest athlete to have played in the AFL (certainly for a KPP). It's crazy to expect anyone to match his running capabilities, especially one coming to the end of his career.SainterK wrote:Agree Loris

Opinions are like arseholes, everybody's got one.
Re: Riewoldt v Pavlich
Pav was also a beast of an athlete
At one stage he was winning time trials at Freo and playing midfield at 100kg
Riewoldt is like a gazelle... His running power over media distance is Olympic like... His physique is made for running.. Freak
Pav much more powerful and actually better at ground level

The Saints were in England for a preseason not long ago, Sir Sebastian Coe and Daley Thompson saw Rooey running sprints, thought he was in the Aussie Olympic team; they then said "let us coach him for a year, and he'll be an Olympian"BigMart wrote:Pav was also a beast of an athlete

A real Sainter will pledge allegiance to the ❤ and despise the Pies, the Blues, and the Injectors.

What a tragic waste of potential that would be.WellardSaint wrote:The Saints were in England for a preseason not long ago, Sir Sebastian Coe and Daley Thompson saw Rooey running sprints, thought he was in the Aussie Olympic team; they then said "let us coach him for a year, and he'll be an Olympian"BigMart wrote:Pav was also a beast of an athlete
