Re: Paddy in the ruck.
Dumb idea, get rid if it, etc....you dont let a 20 year old number 1 pick get banged up at the centre bounce. I don't even like seeing Bruce in there.
I think I only saw it once, and it looked like a last minute decision, hopefully it was just a mix up on the bench or something.

Re: Paddy in the ruck.
I think it's ok to give him an occasional go in there. He's already big enough and ugly enough to look after himself. You'd expect Bruce to do most of the relief work, though.
Since we go in with only the one true ruckman we need to spread the workload around a bit and, after all, the kid is trying to improve his tank.
We've already seen glimpses that he's a very smart player and that's a good quality in a ruckman, even a relief ruckman. He seems to make the guys around him walk a bit taller, too.
Any case, I doubt we'll see him rucking for a whole quarter or anything like that.
Early days Plugger used to often have a run in the ruck. Part of his development. Obviously the comparison ends there though.

Bruce wasn't off from memory but stuck further away in the forward line- having been involved in the previous goal...
will check the tape....

Re: Paddy in the ruck.
As BM said obviously Hickey and Bruce were both off the ground at the same time and Paddy went in last minute. It won't be a regular occurrence I wouldn't think.
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”
St Kilda - At least we have a Crest!

Re: Paddy in the ruck.
Plugger would just look to smash the ball 30m to Centre Half Forward the few times he contested a centre bouncebigcarl wrote:Early days Plugger used to often have a run in the ruck. Part of his development. Obviously the comparison ends there though.

Re: Paddy in the ruck.
Roo started running into the centre to contest it and then Paddy realised he wouldn't mind having Roo around to help out for another year or so yet.

Hickey went off after goal scored. Bruce deep forward. Midfield screaming for Bruce but had his back to the midfield.
Paddy ran to centre square and contested ruck duel.

Re: Paddy in the ruck.
This had Geary written all over it.
"Now the ball is loose, it gives St. Kilda a rough chance. Black. Good handpass. Voss. Schwarze now, the defender, can run and from a long way".....
Re: Paddy in the ruck.
Don't mind the one off so long as it's not against someone like natanui sticking that knee and shin onto him
