Remember
We beat up on a S*** side today, we were very average for a half and played better after that.
Steven and Ross dominated that much, really we should have won by 20 goals.
don't get carried away, don't forget last week and put the win in context. They are a below par AFL team..... as bad as Fitzroy 95/96

Unsure footy, unsure footballers.

Coming off a smashing while the Bombers came off a positive second half. Once we got going we looked OK.BigMart wrote:We beat up on a S*** side today, we were very average for a half and played better after that.

Re: Remember
I could reel off 12 players in that side that are fringe or worse AFL players.... They are rubbish.
In the first half, we were very poor, and only their inability had us in the game.

We need to win games we are expected to win and we did!
We'll still finish bottom six, but that's no big deal at present.

Re: Remember
I am almost certain we will beat Freo. I dont like our chances v Crows.
I think we should have the Blues covered but it wont be a gimme.
We also get the Bombers again in July so we have a bloody favourable draw.
Still should get our 8-9 wins.

Freo game could be a bit like today's. A nothing game vs. sub standard non-AFL opposition.Con Gorozidis wrote:I am almost certain we will beat Freo. I dont like our chances v Crows.

Saying that, beating Essendon and Freo is always a highlight

Re: Remember
That may be the case however the Dopers have pushed quite a few sides this season - Melbourne (win), Geelong (6pts down at 3 quarter time), Carlton (7pts down at 3 quarter time), North (14pt loss)BigMart wrote:We beat up on a S*** side today, we were very average for a half and played better after that.

No one is forgetting last week and a lesser side might have rolled over today after that performance however it was an absolute positive how we responded today after a sluggish 1st half (hangover from last week) - shows that we have a little bit of character and hopefully we can build on it through the next few weeks.
We definitely weren't on our game but we still came away with a good 8 goal win - not forgetting that the 2nds too had a good win against a strong opponent.

Re: Remember
Next week against the Dockers at Etihad will see us continue on with that second half display and should easily account for them by 8-12 goals. The following week against the Crows in Adelaide may be a different story however.
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”
St Kilda - At least we have a Crest!

Re: Remember
A good win against ordinary opposition.
Now to back it up in what will be a danger game because of the Ro$$ factor and I hope we stick it up the smug prick.
"This is how you do a rebuild Ro$$" should be the catch cry.

Biggest win since Round 14 last year, and third biggest win in over three years.
Lowest opposition score since Round 17 last year.
First time we've won all four quarters in 18 matches, and only the second time since 2013.
Four scores over 100 for the season, same as 2015 and 2014 combined.
First back to back wins against Essendon since 2008-09.
Only the 15th win vs Essendon in 35 years.
And I don't care if Essendon are the worst team in history, any win over them is sweet for me.

Re: Remember
Wasn't overly impressed with the Crows at Metricon. They were always gonna win but the Suns guys were having a real crack and hanging in there for awhile. Crows backline will have their hands with our fowards. If Betts can be nullified like he was on Saturday (Harbrow seemed to be on him - kept him to no goals, 11 disposals and he s*** himself a few times did Betts).
Anyway, Shockers up before that. smash them, see how crows go against GWS and then go for it at AO

Re: Remember
I agree completely...any other team would have smashed us in the first half. The press conferences and interviews from the club gave me the impression that nobody was that perturbed by how godawful our ball movement and execution was in the first half.
It was really, really bad. Inexcusably so. Things got a little bit better in the third quarter but still...it's good we were able to get hands on the ball this week but worrying that we were able to give it back so easily (not even under pressure) or to have so much of the ball without being able to score. As this thread is saying, we were lucky to be up against a pretty terrible side.
As much as I enjoyed the third quarter in particular, there were as many, if not more, negatives as positives from this game, I reckon.
My Best: Steven, Roo, Ross, Bruce, Dunstan.
