That drug is his only hope unfortunately. So I hope it works out for him.saintspremiers wrote:http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/afl/ar ... alker.html
If this doesn't work, the prognosis is grim.

Why is that? Have you heard something that hasn't been reported?Con Gorozidis wrote:That drug is his only hope unfortunately. So I hope it works out for him.saintspremiers wrote:http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/afl/ar ... alker.html

I don't know too much about cancer (thankfully myself and my family have been lucky - touch wood) Surely there's other options as well?

I've read that secondary melanomas are almost always fatal. That's why Crawf was in tears on the Footy Show last night and why there is such an emotional response in the media. It's that bad. It's just that the local media aren't reporting the full story. I've also read he's got spots on a vital organ.
Saying all this, maybe he will go on the new wonder drug and it will work. Haven't read how much time he has left - but that is hard to tell in many cases. Let's all live in hope of course.

Con used the word only.
Even the Walker interview mentioned at least two different drugs. In cancer treatment new drugs keep being invented all the time, which is why surviving man cancers is much more likely that only a decade or so ago.
Plus there are other options. But yes once this form of cancer reaches internal organs it tends to be grim as it tends to then keep popping up in other places. No one will most likely know what the outcome will be. But odds will not be good. The outbreak in the lungs may be all removed or killed, but it may now just keep re-occuring in different locations.
I recently lost a brother in law to leukaemia. Was a roller cost of up and downs for over a year. Some things worked for a while, and some treaments worked on others but not him. Each person is different. Each hospital tends to have some different treatments as well. Many new things are tried.

Again, both SrS are just repeating info we've read and not giving advice. This's not hard to understand. The Fireman wrote:People giving prognoses and medical advice on here need to stfu.

Why? It is publicly available information. It is recurrent mucosal melanoma. It is very serious. Other people who arent footy stars also suffer. The Fireman wrote:People giving prognoses and medical advice on here need to stfu.
I hope that he gets a good outcome with this new drug. Noone is giving out advice that I can see. Good luck and best wishes to Roughie.

Re: Hope for Roughy!
Yes I read that somewhere also. But one thing you can say about cancer, if you can find a drug that at suppresses the advance mine of the bad cells, if nothing else it buys you time and the possibility something else will pop upstonecold wrote:saintspremiers wrote:Again, both SrS are just repeating info we've read and not giving advice. Thankfully there is a treatment option. 5 years ago he would've been very lucky to see out much of 2017. Now if it works - he could play again for Hawthorn!
