I'm glad we let that arsewipe go because as a front running receiver he would be crap in our sideBernard Shakey wrote:We did the right thing at the time and let Cripps go on compassionate grounds!

Posting 20 years of holey crap!
Re: Small forwards and trade potential
Cripps is cat
He was their worst player against us... Basically a downhill skiing forward
What compassionate grounds... He wanted to go home
And we got screwed in the trade because he nominated WC

chicken or cheese? The point is we have done MUCH worse trades than losing Jamie Cripps. Absolute least of our problems.BringBackMadDog wrote:Come next year when Murdoch will be delisted I reckon you will go for the Fanta and twistiesCon Gorozidis wrote:Father son is no guarantee as the points system/discount still applies but point taken.Doctor Two wrote:Could never have got Lachie Hunter as he was a father son for the Bulldogs. So it is a bit of a myth that we got "a packet of twisties and a can of Fanta' for Cripps. We got Murdoch and could well have got Hunter who is much better than fanta and twisties.
We could have got Mason Wood then. And Brodie Murdoch is better than twisties and a fanta.
Murdoch will possibly be delisted but he isnt completely hopeless. He is a competent player. Murdoch might even hang on at the end of this year.
There are quite a few ahead of him. Usually only 7 go. This is how I see it in order.
1. Fisher (retire)
2. Delaney (gone)
3. Curren (gone)
4. Shenton (gone)
5. Longer (trade?)
6. Wright
7. Lee
-----------------------------------------
8. Dempster (retire)
9. Gilbert (trade/retire)
10. Minch (delist/trade)
11. Murdoch

7. prefer to keep Lee, he looked decent on the back line
8 Dempster may go another year
9. still like Gilbert, he's got atributes
11. Murdoch may be decent, prefer to keep

Re: Small forwards and trade potential
Why the hell would you get rid of the 22 year old, 202cm, 103kg Longer who has so far had 42 games of experience?
And then rely on the untried Pierce and the romantic hopeful Holmes as the back up for Hickey?
Simply, the day will come when we play both Hickey and Longer and they will be a formidable combination.
And I would be speaking to Fisher about 1 more year, doing what he does best supporting Carlisle and Goddard.
Fisher is that good.
Lee is coming along as a defender - and, hopefully by season's end will have consolidated in the Seniors.
You do not put in that amount of education to say "pack your bags"..
Murdoch and Shenton are currently giving themselves chances to be retained by their VFL form, with the next step being to confirm that form at AFL level.
Delaney and Holmes will be on shaky ground and the rule will be put over Wright, Curren, Minchington and Templeton acknowledging we need to improve our mid-field options.
Coming into the equation will be any retirements, the strength of the Draft and our Draft Picks and any trading or Free Agency we can engineer.
Currently we have a core of about 19 players who are central, and a couple of them are not playing currently.
The remainder are all under pressure to show they can consistently impact on the results of an AFL game - so, even if they remain of the List they will continue to be under pressure as we turn players and then turn them again.
