The phrase "Thats not the first time a player wearing No 4 has won a game for St Kilda" was used in commentary at the end of what game?

Was it the Ansett Cup Qualifying Final against the Blues in 1995? When Joel Smith kicked a goal in the last minute to snatch a win?

Was it Round 2. 1989. Plugger kicked 10 at Moorabbin. Plugger's tenth gave us a win over the Blues by 3 points.

In the same game which player kicked 2 last quarter goals.

Incidentally he went on to play just one senior game for the club and wore number 27.

Ahh HD..sounds like you and me have watched that game one too many times!!

I remember being at work during it..and just downing tools with 5 mins to go and amusing everyne with my antics when the siren went with Tommy Alvin's shot just registering a point (?)

ANYWAY..Question...I have paraphrased these quote from a football annual of the day..

"St Kilda really did 19** the hard way They were dogged by injuries to senior players all year, yet with a bit of luck they could easily have been the titleholders. The season got off on the wrong foot for the Saints with serious injuries to senior players, and later in the year their skipper was slowed right down with a nagging injury. But the Saints must take full credit for the way they everyone stuck together and backed their coach, who got success, despite the constant changes that had to be made to his side"

NO..this is NOT from 2005..but the similarities are scary..including one that I cant include because it would make it too easy.

What year am I talking about, and for a bonus point, what other striking similarity did this year have to 2005?

1972 it is!!!

The injured players included Murrray, Lawrence and Mc Intosh..our injured skipper was Ross Smith..the coach Allan Jeans of course

The other eerie coincidence was that we made it to the Prelim, only to be beaten by the eventual premiers...in this case Carlton

Your go HD

I think I have asked this question before, but I cant remember as their have been so many.

Since 1989. 3 saints have kicked 10 goals in a game. they are Lockett, Gehrig and Milne.

In that time 7 players have kicked 9 goals in a game for the Saints.

Who are the 7??

Milne is the odd one out.
