Re: Dunstan
Probably check the stats before making a call
Priddis off the rookie list played 24 games in his second season (2 games after upgrade in his first, but a Sandover) and got 565 possessions
A lazy 9 Brownlow Votes
In his third Season
Just 18 games (injury) 430 possessions and 5 more votes
So in his first 40 games had 4 BOGs
14 votes
25+ on 21 occasions
39 possessions in his 10th game
45 possessions in his 36th game
Not such a slow start
He averaged 24ppg

Re: Dunstan
Hayes
Not sure if anyone remembers his frame early days... Lenny was a fairly tall mid for the time 187cm and drafted at just 72kg. He was very much a skilful flanker/Winger for a bit. We had Harvey, Burke, Francis, Thompson, Callaghan playing inside
Lenny went in more in Year 3
Stats a bit misleading
He played 13 games, but was injured early in his 13th after 1 touch. So cancel that game.
But Lenny was a special player
One touch, huge side step, dual sided and a smooth mover. Very underrated user of the ball... Like Harvey.
Dunstan is a Matt Priddis style accumulator who will look to dish or chip.

That's ok as I do not think that anyone is claiming that Dunstan will be the new Ablett. Not even his mum.

Re: Dunstan
You twist it to suit yourself. What I said was Priddis is slow and Has no penetration in his kicking. He has since improved and now handballs a lot. Who do you think he beat in the Sandover?BigMart wrote:Probably check the stats before making a call

Dunstan has plenty of scope for improvement. Let's see how performs in the back half of the season.

Aren't
Misleading and meaningless two different words
They are never meaningless
But some circumstances can make them misleading
Ie
Hayes playing 13 games in 01
He played 12 games and 3 minutes of the thirteenth
So it effects his average somewhat
But
Good try

However even if one "cancels" that game his average is still less than Dunstans. So if you have Dunstan as crap due to number of disposals at this stage of his career, then Hayes and many other good mids show that your argument does not hold water.
Not sure why Hayes gets to cancel out part games when he is injured though and other players do not?
Why do you not allow Dunstan's average to be increased for the half game he missed when he copped a knock to the jaw?

Re: Dunstan
And why is Hayes excused his less than Dunstan like start to his career because he was skinny and not fully developed yet, but Dunstan not given the same opportunity to develop? Players take 5 years to reach close to their potential. Dunstan is not even half way there yet. Will learn to break free from packs and will learn how to get space to use his possessions under less pressure. It would help if some of his teammates blocked, bumped, shepherded and held opponents from the contest the way Dunstan does to up help his teammates.

Re: Dunstan
If you dont understand why it's easier for a kid to come in to the afl with a fully developed body at 18 rather than an underdeveloped body... I should stop debating the point. Also how playing 3 mins ago of a game for 1 possession effects a 13 game season.. Again I must stop
What I will say
Dunstan will NOT emulate the feats of Hayes, he plays nothing like Hayes, hayes was a far more talented player. Luke was overrated year 1 because he was able to transition quickly because of his body shape and the fact he played senior footy.
What I will also add is that Luke has been given every opportunity ... Even after being underwhelming at times last year. He has yet to line up for Sandy as far as I remember.
I know you love him BFUSA and because he wears #7 compare him to Hayes. But that's where the similarities end.
If you want a comparison
Priddis at best
S Powell more likely (who incidently was a very good player)

Well they are your words, not mine. I said that statistics on their own mean little. Which is hard to argue with, so you argued against "meaningless".BigMart wrote:

Re: Dunstan
Obviously Richo rates Dunstan. He would be set goals and minimum expectation and is meeting them. While Dunstan has been doing this our team is improving. BigMarts opinion is not meaningless but it is irrelevant.

Re: Dunstan
It is absurd to think Dunstan will be anywhere near as good as Lenny. Simply absurd. It isn't even worth debating. It simply won't happen. Dunstan might be a good player but he won't be close to Lenny. Hayes is a 3 x B& F winner and 3 x AA. I mean Dunstan may well be a good competent player for us - But Lenny is an all time great of the club. I mean it isnt a fair comparison.

Exactly right Con
Unfair comparison... He will be an ok player
Armitage, Powell level player
I think Ross has a higher ceiling... He's clever, has more time.
