Re: Dal Santo's 300
Why are people grieving over McEvoy? He was nothing great. We got a bargain trade with Hawthorn for him. Savage and a first round pick (was it Billings or Dunstan?).

Dunstan from memory. Billings was our pick 3.Sainternist wrote:Why are people grieving over McEvoy? He was nothing great. We got a bargain trade with Hawthorn for him. Savage and a first round pick (was it Billings or Dunstan?).
Anyway, agreed. We invested 6 seasons into McEvoy and while he was good at finding the footy, getting into the right position down back and could kick goals, his tap work was some of the worst in the league. At best, McEvoy was a serviceable 2nd ruck who could float forward.
Hickey's tap work is already streets ahead of where McEvoy's was at during the same stage of development, and he also finds the footy and has goal sense. It will still take Hickey a few more years, but I think he has the makings of an All-Australian ruck man and could grow into one of the best in the league. While Hickey has had critics, Pelchen clearly rated him and we're starting to see why, if we didn't already from last season.
So on reflection, a first round pick and Savage was a pretty good trade.
Bad management is bad management
Re: Dal Santo's 300
If memory serves me right he was part of one of Pelchens deals, but I dont believe Pelchen recruited anyone rather he left that for others to decide what to do with the picks. Such as Richo wouldn't of recruited anyone.BigMart wrote:Did Pelchen recruit Hickey?

Re: Dal Santo's 300
Didn't we get something like pick 18 & 19, plus steak knives (savage) for McEvoy and pick 24?
And with 18 & 19, I reckon we got Dunstan & Acres, and with their pick 24 I think they got Hartung.

Dal just wasn't as overt about it.
Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.

I believe it was a case of the best thing you can do for the club is to be traded
What could he say?
I have no doubts he wanted to remain a saints player, The question is did we get what we want?

Dal did not walk, he was traded for Delany and draft pics I think. Can't be bothered looking it up.Bernard Shakey wrote:He walked just as BJ did!

Re: Dal Santo's 300
No, he did walk. He left as a restricted free agent after we wouldn't match the handsome sum and 3 year contract North Melbourne offered him. If he stayed with us, he would have got considerably less, wouldn't be playing finals for the rest of his career and was under the impression he'd by coached by Scott Watters. Can't say I blame the guy. It's not as though he hadn't paid his dues as a Saint, anyway.St Lenny wrote:Dal did not walk, he was traded for Delany and draft pics I think.
