Dal Santo's 300
Completely missed that one. Didn't hear anything in the press. Such a shame he didn't clock it up with the Saints. I bet you deep down he is too

Re: Dal Santo's 300
I vaguely remember it, but very little was said about it in the press. Also would have loved to see him stay with us and reach the milestone in the red, white and black. After all, he played 260 games for St.Kilda. Gee, he would still be quite a handy player for us right now. He's having no difficulty being selected in North Melbourne's 21 players every week and that's nothing to sneeze at, considering they're on top of the ladder. He was traded to North courtesy of Scott Watters. It's an interesting hypothetical to pose on whether or not Richo would have traded him if he was coach at the time. Of course Richo became coach only a couple of weeks later.
I have to admit, I'd be happy for Dal if he was a member of a premiership team with North Melbourne this year.

I don't think he wanted to leave and unlike Goddard certainly didn't chase free agency spoils.Sainternist wrote:I vaguely remember it, but very little was said about it in the press. I remember he was quoted saying he would nominate for free agency if it would help the saints get an early pick.
Not sure what we got for that pick but he is a life member and I hope he returns to the club when his career is over.
One year will be our year

Re: Dal Santo's 300
I have a feeling he may pursue coaching at some capacity after his playing career is over. He's very articulate and has tremendous footy smarts. You never know; he could return to St.Kilda in some sort of coaching role. Would love to have him back on board.longtimesaint wrote:Not sure what we got for that pick but he is a life member and I hope he returns to the club when his career is over.

Re: Dal Santo's 300
Knew he played 300, had no idea when it was. Turns out it was a Prelim, fair enough there wasn't much gloss attached to it with a GF on the line. He could easily make it to 350 though.

Re: Dal Santo's 300
The way North fans talk about him on their BF board is disgraceful. Can't hope he gets a flag because I can't stand that arrogant, disgusting club.

Since I can't imagine visiting that board (Petrie and Boomer leave me cold and I do NOT think Ziebell represents the second coming); what is their issue?8856brother wrote:The way North fans talk about him on their BF board is disgraceful. Seems like the same classy user of the ball he always was. He was never fast but always seemed to have about 5 seconds extra to dispose of the ball than most others ... Doesn't get rubbed out for being a knob either ...
Always loyal

Dal is impossible to hate.
I wish him all the best.
Of course I wish he had finished his career with Roo and Monty.

He walked just as BJ did!
Dal just wasn't as overt about it.

If you count being offered a pay cut as being pushed then yes.skeptic wrote:I'm pretty sure he was pushedSainternist wrote:Can't help but to think if SW had anything to do with that though?Bernard Shakey wrote:He walked just as BJ did!

We missed out on a premiership because we did not have the cap to import a couple more star players as Hawthorn have done.
Our star players including Ball, Riewoldt, Goddard and Dal Santo were all overpaid compared to Hawthorn.

Re: Dal Santo's 300
After his sacking, Scott Watters' was adement that he was dissapointed in the "clubs" decision to let BJ, McEvoy and Dal go, like he had no say in the matter. Given that list management was in the hands of Pelchen during that time, there might be an element of truth in it.Sainternist wrote:Can't help but to think if SW had anything to do with that though?Bernard Shakey wrote:He walked just as BJ did!

Didn't the Roo's offer Dal a million dollar contract over three years, which the Saints refused to match, hence he left as a restricted free agent? Would make sense given Pelchen's list management policy regarding our aging stars.

Re: Dal Santo's 300
Yes. Saints chose not to match Norf's 3 year offer. We received pick 25 as compo for Dal (ripped off IMO - should have been a higher pick), which we on-traded to the Brions with pick 41 for Billy Longer and pick 48, which we then used on Josh Bruce from GWS.SydneySainter wrote:After his sacking, Scott Watters' was adement that he was dissapointed in the "clubs" decision to let BJ, McEvoy and Dal go, like he had no say in the matter. It's shaping up as a good draft and trade year for us is 2013. Bruce, Dunstan, Acres, Billings, Weller all came into the club. Also Longer, Templeton, Curren, Holmes and Delaney.

Was quite shattered when we lost BJ, McEvoy and Dal.
And of those three Dal was a stand out favourite of mine.
