Re: Next week
There is an art and science to playing as a defender and as far as I am aware Paddy has in recent years not played as a defender, and perhaps never has.SainterK wrote:Ok left field weird idea...
Stick Paddy down back.
Reckon he's showing good judgement and clunking a few, would it hurt his development to follow someone like petrie around?
Worse case switch him forward and do a reshuffle.
Expecting someone to play as key defender in such circumstances against a trio of in form key forwards would be suicide, both for the player and his team-mates down back.

Re: Next week
We certainly need some height and strength down back. If we can beat them comprehensively through the midfield then perhaps we are a chance. But if their tall forwards get decent supply we are in trouble

Re: Next week
Apparently he has a number of things to work on at VFL level and on the track before he gets another crack. I think he was suggesting Membrey probably has the third forward spot nailed down for at least a few weeks now too.8856brother wrote:Why's that?Beno88 wrote:According to Paddy himself on Saturday, he won't be back in the Saints team any time soon.SainterK wrote:Ok left field weird idea...

I noticed that Huddo gave young Coughlan a decent wrap. He may be knocking on the door for a senior game before seasons end.

Re: Next week
Heard that Scott (the NM version) is the coach appearing on SEN's coverage of the Friday night game.
If so, then 'the Friday night curse' may occur.
So far this year the team coached by whoever they have on underperforms on the weekend. Richo was on the Friday night before our game against the Dogs.
Last week it was Goodwin from Melbourne.
Buckley was on the week they played us.
I think the only team that has won after their Coach appeared was Geelong in Round 3, and they just won a game they were expected to dominate.
All in all it is an 'omen'

Re: Next week
Josh Bruce down back. The rested McCartin and Membrey as two-pronged forward attack, with Riewoldt prowling the 50m arc.

Re: Next week
I heard Paul Roos saying that they were always going to lose a shootout against us and they needed to play a defensive game. That's what they'll be doing this week he said.
If we were to do the same and considering we have a very short backline ( I'm assuming Delaney won't be in the 22) can we get away with playing defensively against so many tall forwards that North have ?
Maybe we should include Paddy,Membrey,Bruce and Roo and try and win in a shootout ?
If we can't contain their forward line can we match it ?
There are five sides ahead of North on %. They aren't the best defensively either.
To be honest i can't see us winning if we tried to contain them.

Re: Next week
Our win v Dreamons was most dfinitely not a shootout! They scored some junk time goals to boost their score. We broke the game open in the third qtr. While it was a pretty fast and skilful game, was not a shootout Roosy so think of another 'excuse'.

Re: Next week
Now I'm worried.
NMelbourne has upgraded Robin Nahas from the rookie list as the replacement for Jed Anderson, who was already on the long-term injury list.
