Next week
Great performance today by the team, much more in the mode of Hawthorn and Collingwood games, as well as port for 3 qtrs.
That said next week with North's big 3 we need another tall backman in the side. I like th idea of Gilbert on the wing and therefore already a little undersized with Dempster so don't want 2 undersized flankers .
Options - Lee , Goddard, Delaney
Forgetting Sandy form to me either Lee or Goddard comes in as with Waite, Brown and Petrie we need another.
Who goes out - well that is a tough one.
Watching Hogam today i completely understand why they recruited Carlisle

Re: Next week
I just think of poor Jackson against the North monsters...nothing's changed since then, still undersized.
Midfield has the biggest job, Hickey v Goldstein....just stop it going down there so much and it hopefully won't matter?

Re: Next week
A lot more skill to contend with next week.
We definitely need another tall down back, or we could be in for serious problems, I haven't been following form in the VFL, but Goddard may be worth a run, as he is tall and agile.
The 8 day break should be a much needed help to us,

Re: Next week
For this match we swapped a midfielder ( Acres ) for a tall back ( Lee). ( Membrey for McCartin, and Gresham for Lonie were more like-for-like swaps). For North, with their 3 genuine talls, we need to reverse that. Neither Lee nor Goddard were named in best for Sandy tonight, but based on his game last week I agree Lee comes in , probably for Minchington ( although I am glad Meatball did more in the second half today ).
Great to see Lonie named BOG for Sandy, but unless there is an injury I don't see there is a spot for him nor for Paddy . Richo specifically mentioned Membrey and Gresham in his post-game presser so I reckon he will stick with them .. And the rest of the winning team.

So hickey has a three week span of Mumford, Gawn and Goldy. That'll put hair on his chest.SainterK wrote:I just think of poor Jackson against the North monsters...nothing's changed since then, still undersized.

Re: Next week
Crikey North looked TALL last night. We can't match that; we need another plan. At the moment I can't see what that is, but then again, I thought Melbourne would belt us, so what do I know? Richo, over to you.
BTW, we don't play Richmond until R22. Crying shame.

Re: Next week
In 50 years we have only beaten Richmond at the MCG 7 times and drawn 3 times (compared with 23 wins against Melbourne at the G in the same time frame), so I wouldn't bet the house on us having a great day in that particular fixture. They will improve as the year goes on and finish ninth and we might have tired legs by then.SemperFidelis wrote:Crikey North looked TALL last night. We can't match that; we need another plan. I'd be tempted to bring Delaney back for this one and next week against the West Coast tall timber, provided his VFL form is okay.BackFromUSA wrote:Petrie - Fisher

Re: Next week
Ok left field weird idea...
Stick Paddy down back.
Reckon he's showing good judgement and clunking a few, would it hurt his development to follow someone like petrie around?
Worse case switch him forward and do a reshuffle.

I don't think Goddard could go with Brown...or Petrie. The tank just isn't there for either.BackFromUSA wrote:Petrie - Fisher

According to Paddy himself on Saturday, he won't be back in the Saints team any time soon.SainterK wrote:Ok left field weird idea...

Re: Next week
Goddard may be tall, but agile he aint!! He will be a good player for us, but he really needs to improve his mobility and he has virtually no leap.Junction Oval wrote:A lot more skill to contend with next week.

Why change our structure when it's working well.spert wrote:Bruce down back would be a possible- agile, strong, tall. Bring Lee in as FF
If we can win the midfield North will have to worry about our tall forwards,
Most important role is Hickey on Goldstein.
He has done well against Mumford and Gawn -another tough matchup.
One year will be our year

Been thinking that perhaps there is a role here for Riewoldt.spert wrote:Bruce down back would be a possible- agile, strong, tall. Bring Lee in as FF

Re: Next week
Bruce down back is an option, my gut feel is that we need to bring a big guy into the squad, not necessary to play back because we may have adequate flexability. Lee could be an option to go forward or back, just like Bruce. I just don't see Roo picking up a tall forward, although he could float around the half back line.....that's right he does that anyway..
