Richo blindly picks Geary who follows every team rule, except the one about no silly helicopter kicks that become rebound goals.
Geary, who is a flanker, stays to play on talls, while Lee gets dropped, Lee, who kicks like a gem and can handle talls because he IS tall...

Really, the sooner players that can't kick are kicked out of the team the better for us.

Seriously - none of thestellar teams have 1 player - let alone 1/2 dozen - who are shite kicks. Name Hawthorn, Sydney and WCE's poor kicks?
There seems to be a lot of outrage about Tom Lee getting dropped...me, i'm not too fussed. DIdn't think he was fantastic and he's not as good a player as Dempster or Fisher, so if we don't need 3 tall KPP back's, then he's first out for mine. Perhaps the selection committee are looking at playing GIlbert more in the back half this week. Gilbert can play fairly tall.
I just can't see Lee nailing a spot. He's not big enough to go with big power forwards and he's not mobile enough to play a mobile 3rd tall defender...I can't see him running and bouncing out of defence like a Gilbert or Roberton, can anyone else?? Therefore he is grouped with key position defenders and he's obviously behind Dempster and Fisher and probably Goddard once he's good to go...so i'm not too fussed about him being dropped. He's certainly not the answer to us winning more games or even being more competitive, also probably not going to be in our best 22 when we are really pushin for finals, IMO of course.
Without getting into specifics he just didn't follow the team rules and the job the coaches asked of him. Remember the game against Geelong back in 2014 when he was substituted before half time......same thing. The lad has talent but has to do the job he is assigned to do.

So, according to the above, Lee may only be considered as the 2nd key position defender which would be Dempster's spot at the moment (not tall enough for 1st defender & not mobile enough for 3rd defender)?
My question is for next year and, assuming Carlisle AND Goddard can play and come good, where does Lee sit then as those two would be the 2 tall KPD's?

Would like to know what the team rules are. There were worse players than Lee out there against GWS who held their spots. I hope the coach is not one of these guys who blindly follows protocol while the world crumbles around him.

He probably was not defensive enough and tackle rather than go for marks.
If he was told to stay close to Cameron and nullify him then I can see why he has been left out.
This week I expect the pressure and tackling to be top priority.

I am surprised about Lee but TBH, I am happy we have standards that have an impact on selection. I am sure we could debate until the cows come home what those standards should be, but I would rather see whatever there is being enforced.
If that means Blacres, Tommy and others play a yo-yo role for a while, so be it. That will serve us better in a couple of years when we should be better positioned to challenge. By that stage, some of the stalwarts (aka whipping boys) will be heading for the exit anyway.
I'm really disappointed.
I thought we were seing a late bloomer emerging.
Still a bit tentative and mistake prone, but looking quite possible.
Just needs more games to get into the groove.
Needs more fire in the belly imho, footy doesn't wait around too long for people to wake up.
Would he have stayed on the list this year if Chris hadn't of thrown him a 2 year deal on the way out? Maybe, maybe not
Good to see you back K.

"Don't argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience."
Easy to be enthusiastic about Lee as a potential tall marking defender who can kick. Our track record at producing tall backs is piddly.
Stanley went back and was craphouse.
Dawson came and went, and was disliked by many.
Simpkin never truly got a decent run at it.
Gilbert can't really play tall, and Roberton can't really play tall.
Delaney is our specialist nowhere man.
And Carlisle is a banned drug cheat.
So other than Goddard who is still a kid, no wonder we want Lee to work, and to want to see him get a decent crack, especially after a full year working away in the VFL, and especially without Roberton fit, and especially after two sufficiently passable performances against excellent opposition.
Pretty disappointing. I'll be even worse if Fisher and Dempster start to look under-supported, which we all know is a distinct possibility.
Bernard Shakey wrote:If we lose tomorrow because of butchered turnovers from halfback Richo will look stupid, but I'm sure Richo knows what he's doing.
Tom Lee can win games with his penetrating kicks off halfback, at least he can at VFL level, still to be seen at AFL level.
I really hope Tom can adapt to Richo's gameplan, because I love watching his awesome kicking ability!
Interesting that he is so dominant at VFL level. It just goes to show how the elite level of AFL is very difficult to excel at. Also hoping Lee can display his potential when he gets another chance.

Well yesterday you said it was horses for courses which I assume was about match ups, game plan etc. Today it's about team rules and a discipline thing.
Which is it?

Honestly, listen to the coaches presser at Moorabbin today.

I work in insurance, 12 times per hour a manager is using warm n fuzzy buzzwords and phrases.
Pardon me if I am cynical, but one can only hear the same words so many times before it becomes sickening.

Tommy Lee - from Whipping Boy to Criminally Ignored Messiah - the fan transformation is now complete (until he plays a s*** game and then he will be that waste of a high pick WAFL player again - such is the St Kilda fan cycle)
