Soft free kicks in last Qtr for Hawthorn
They have a gift for getting soft free kicks at crucial times in crucial parts of the ground....Thieved three , three point wins in a row

How many frees were they gifted in front of goal tonight? I reckon 5.fugazi wrote:They have a gift for getting soft free kicks at crucial times in crucial parts of the ground....Thieved three , three point wins in a row
As ex-president Peter Summers said:

Re: Soft free kicks in last Qtr for Hawthorn
Adelaide... Like Richmond (v coll), and possibly us and the dogs
Choked and didn't know how to take their chances.
No 11 Seedsman made two errors which basically cost them the game.
Then from a kick in with 1 minute to go the decision to kick it to a 50/50... And don't kill the ball and halve the contest.
Costly, they should have found a free player and controlled the ball.
If by some freak measure they couldn't block a player free
Their next play would be push up and go out the back
They took the safe option and a negative mindset will end up in a negative result
Poor effort... The crows have a disgusting back half . Kyle Cheney getting games would indicate that anyway

Agree BM - that kick to a 50/50 which didn't hit it's man, and then Cheney not going for the ball and instead going for his man was the difference.
Lot to like about Lynch's game tonight though. I hope Freo have a plan B, because I have a feeling that they are about to experience some of what we've been experiencing real soon.

Poor players are exposed in big moments. I said to the missus, at half time (who incidently didn't give a rats) hawthorn will stay in touch whilst being outplayed and win the game. Because Adelaide will lose it.

Glad I wasn't the only one that noticed the armchair ride they received in the last term.

The umps love a winner. Everything else being equal they'll get behind the three-time reigning premiers in a close one. You can count on it.

Adelaide shouldn't have let the Hawks back in. Texas was too quiet.
With the 90 interchange cap, the Hawks will become Fourthorn

Not about footy she hates it. Playing for 20 years and watching for longer will do that.

Re: Soft free kicks in last Qtr for Hawthorn
You've got to give props to Hawks as well. They tend to win these close ones because of their brilliant system, their ability to score and their willingness to attack always. Even in the last 2 mins they don't flood the ball so they have guys ready to spread and score again. Their guys tend to get their hands on the ball first in the dying minutes so are always in a position to get a free (umpire love for Mitchell and Hodge helps). Mitchell and Hodge are brilliant at thinking through the last minute scenarios and Rioli can do the impossible in a second. It's a recipe for winning the close ones.

That clown is umpiring the Melbourne v Richmond game. How he wasn't dropped is anyone's guess.LTN16 wrote:Was Andrew Stephens also umpiring tonight's game? They got looked after again!!

Re: Soft free kicks in last Qtr for Hawthorn
The Hawks lifted in the last and the Crows panicked and went into their shell, very similiar to us the week prior. They had the impetus but it still doesnt excuse some of the frees they receive in front of goal. Umpires still expecting them to win and call that way!

Re: Soft free kicks in last Qtr for Hawthorn
Not often I disagree with you but you're saying the soft/bs free to poppy and the non-free in the dying seconds when smith grabbed the ball and hugged it to his body had no influence on the result.BigMart wrote:Adelaide... Like Richmond (v coll), and possibly us and the dogs

Hawks last 3 games we should be saying how they can't get over the line without divine intervention.

Good teams win the close ones and you have to admit that Hawthorn are more than just a good team. They are a great team. The Fireman wrote:starting to really dislike Hawthorn.

Re: Soft free kicks in last Qtr for Hawthorn
Hawthorn are a great team and part of that unfortunately is they often get the benefit of the doubt in umpiring decisions. Remember the same thing with Geelong in the late 2000s. Seemed to be given much more leniency in disposing the ball when umps were pulling up anyone turned 360. anyone but geelong anyway. Last night i agreed with Pupolo's free, but thought Smith should've been done as he simply froze - tucked the ball in and pulled the most obvious fake attempt. very lucky - again benefit of the doubt went to the champion team.

The power of THREE. Three weeks, three wins, three points and three extra players. And to cap it off, three flags.
