Shanghai dream
Well with NZ a failure, would we look at China?
The cash would come in handy. Port already have their hands up and looking for a second club.

Re: Shanghai dream
Do it if the AFL pay for everything, players fees included so we can pocket that money too. AFL would be the only winners if they snag a bunch of international streaming members. Pretty sure NBA League Pass is massive over there so they'd want to follow that model.
Will never take off though, excluding martial arts I can't think of popular contact sports in China.

Re: Shanghai dream
Very silly idea. I was in Shanghai last year and found that we are certainly not on their christmas card list. Reckon we are overrun with Americans whom they hate.

Re: Shanghai dream
Stuff that!Port has stressed it would maintain the rights of a home team without sacrificing one of its 11 home games at Adelaide Oval, meaning the second club would need to sell one of its home games to participate.

No thanks. AFL would schedule us off a 6 day break.

Re: Shanghai dream
The Afl and port have secured this deal .
So in other words , some Chinese billionaire is going to pay the Afl and Port she-it loads of money to play there .
All they need is to get one of the poor clubs , i.e. Dogs , North , Us or maybe one of the newbies to give up their Home game rights to get some of the cash .
I would like to know how much the billionaire is paying .
If we did it and they were to make comments like " the club is getting $500 thousand guaranteed ." Well whoppy doo .
Port would be getting a hell of a lot more .
That knob jockey Kochead , I mean Kochie doesn't do anything unless he see's big dollar signs everywhere.
The Afl and Port are looking a stooge they can buy off cheap .
One of the rich and powerful clubs would do it for 60/40 split .
Especially if the figure involved is large .

Communists are anti-religion aren't they, so they may not like the Saints. If the money is damn good why wouldn't we look at it. We strategically gave up a home game for NZ because we realise we need to grow our base. China is a huge huge huge market. Who knows what sort of marketing/sponsorship deals we may get out of it.

Re: Shanghai dream
horrible feeling it's use. Hoping instead it'll be Gold Coast, who may get a fair margin of support given their colours and nick - if indeed anyone actually cares.
I like Port, but it is sickening for a club to wear the flag of a totalitarian regime on it's jumper.

It is amazing how a big chunk of the world proud of its willingness to fight tyranny whatever the cost, wherever it it on the globe, because its the right thing to do to let people be free, now happily bow at China's for its $$$$. No one even wants to discuss the hypocrisy. Dollars rule totally these days.desertsaint wrote:horrible feeling it's use. Re: Shanghai dream
Well the club and the AFL will be the one's who decide and not us. And if it ends up that we are involved, well I hope we make a fortune out of it.
But on a personal level, this idea doesn't tickle my pickle

Re: Shanghai dream
I would say it is the bulldogs. We will continue to purse NZ which is a much better venture long term
Re: Shanghai dream
Well all we need is for Richo to change his name to Tripitaka, Joey to change his name to Magic Monkey (seems hairy enough) and then we need to find someone to represent Piggsy. We'd have 500k members in no time

Are we serious
We'll jump on anything... If it'll turn us a quick buck
We are like a terrible government... Willing to try anything in the hope something will work!!!

Re: Shanghai dream
Why worry about giving up a home game? So many of the Saints supporters living in Melbourne, don't even attend games played at home....so what would be the loss?
Oh I know, members might get a compensation game, and heaven forbid, if it's played at the MCG...... the poor supporters would have to be exposed to possibly cold, wind and rain. No we can't have them being exposed to such elements watching a predominately winter game can we?
Out of the question getting money to go to China, let's keep losing money at Etihad.

Re: Shanghai dream
I just heard Patrick Smith claim Port Adelaide are looking at a deal worth 10 million for three years in China.
If so it does raise the question if that were the same offer for the second team could we afford to knock that back ?
It could remove all our debt and give us a serious tilt at being a power club given our current admin.
I don't believe the games will lead anywhere for AFL future overseas but we may pick up some Chinese members. With billions of people and some with serious money who knows we only need .000001% and it's dollars !
