Young fellas. They need time.
Very pleasing to see that after Joey and Stevo, our top possession winners today were Billings, Ross, Newnes, Dunstan and Webster. The young up and coming players are starting to step up. Newnes has played 70 games, the others all around 30 or 40.
There's been a lot of criticism about all of these guys, apart from Billings. A lot of people casting doubts about their ability.
It takes time for players to find their feet and realise their potential. So before posting gloom and doom about how we don't have up and coming A graders, think about young guys needing time to develop and grow into being quality AFL players. I'm really excited by today's performance.
I also noticed Richo after the game with the team in a huddle on the ground. Who knows what was said, but I liked it. It looked grounded. They have a plan and they're sticking to it.

Re: Young fellas. They need time.
I have been casting doubts about a couple of those guys, but am absolutely rapt every time they defy it like today. We really need these guys to start taking control as the vets start phasing out.
Last week was hard to deal with being beaten all over the ground… while collingwood are pretty middling, I hope we can return with the same energy and effort next week.

I've got one foot on the Ross bandwagon.
"Now the ball is loose, it gives St. Kilda a rough chance. Black. Good handpass. Voss. Schwarze now, the defender, can run and from a long way".....

What a difference hitting targets makes.
Our field kicking was excellent today and so was the handball and decision making.

I am firmly seated and won't be getting off.
You could always see the talent and he even outran a filth player this afternoon.
12 possessions in the first quarter too.
I'd love to help wipe the egg off a few faces of so called experts.
I was always going to gloat. Just abided my time.

Re: Young fellas. They need time.
I was going to start a thread about Lukey Dunstan but here will do.
Getting quite fed up with the negative rubbish posted about him, but he was great today. Reminded me a bit of Luke Ball.
He had a quiet game in round one when a player landed on him. Today he had 25 dispoals, 4 clearances and 7 tackles (best in the team). He's out number 1 tackler so far this year.

Reminded me of his numbers predecessor actually.saint-stu wrote:I was going to start a thread about Lukey Dunstan but here will do.

Re: Young fellas. They need time.
Jimmy Webster could easily get the votes as BOG today with Jack Newnes not too far behind. Seb Ross, J Webster, J Bruce, J Newnes and T Hickey were instrumental in the win today. We had a few other more recent young guns stepping up but I mention the 22-25 year olds because they all pre date Richo. I think if SW was watching he'd be smiling.
Thought that the whole team gave absolutely 100% today. Great to see the emerging young leaders in Weller and Steven. Mav and Jack were not only role models but also played their hearts out and their efficiency today was A grade

If he could be another Lenny that would be amazing. Not holding my breath though. A Luke Ball type (at his peak) is still very handy.Bunk_Moreland wrote:Reminded me of his numbers predecessor actually.saint-stu wrote:I was going to start a thread about Lukey Dunstan but here will do.

Re: Young fellas. They need time.
I reckon you should always wait until a player is 23 to make judgement on how they're going to be as a player. Many players have break out years at the ages of 22 or 23.

What was pleasing about today's win
Not just that we beat those currents
But
Newnes, Ross, Savage, Weller, Webster, Billings
The 21-24yo players
Were very significant
And Minchington, Sinclair, Lonie
Contibuted
We can't rely on our 6 experienced guys to carry the load
Or the kids like Gresham, McCartin, Goddard or McKenzie
It must be the 30-60 game 21-24 who's consistently step up and deliver
