But the 19-year-old was confident both he and the Saints would bounce back soon.

"It was a big step up obviously from a VFL practice match last week, but I'll be a lot better for the run," McCartin said.

"I think we've just got to keep working together as a team and the more we can jel and play together the better off we'll be."

McCartin said there was a different feel to the Saints' forward line in 2016, with Riewoldt spending more time up the ground so that he and Bruce can develop a partnership inside St Kilda's forward 50

I support this. Team chemistry only comes from matches together. There was a lot of this missing (when we actually managed to string 3 possessions together) on the weekend.

Good head on his shoulders. If he makes it as a good footy player he's future captain material.

Nah with 6 games under his belt, 10 mins of a NAB game and one VFL praccie match for fitness this year, and Rooey sucking up all his space in the second half and some of the first, I'm really disappointed that Paddy didn't take this game by the scruff of the neck and completely dominate kicking at least 7 goals.

I would have thought that ten goals would have been the pass mark.

Especially with the exquisite delivery that was afforded to him.

"Now the ball is loose, it gives St. Kilda a rough chance. Black. Good handpass. Voss. Schwarze now, the defender, can run and from a long way".....

The lack of smart team play was what hurt most.

We looked liked we were playing 'park fooball".

Leigh Mathews made a very succinct comment about big men when he was commentating on Charlie Dixon 2 weeks ago against us...when big forwards are clunking they're marks they look big and 'strong'. When they're not, they look big and 'slow'!

Summed it up perfectly, and it will take some time for Mcartin to keep developing into a man so to speak, but he looks like he's going to be a seriously powerful unit!! Patience required in bucket loads

Damn Rooey

The best CHF for 15 years presenting in Paddy's (a second year player who struggles to get a kick) forward line and taking 14 marks 4 contested and kicking 2/5ths of our score. Sucking up HIS space. Probably Rooeys fault he dropped 3 marks as well...

If he wasn't there Paddy would surely have had played a lot better.

I suggest we piss off Rooey to the wing because he'll dominate like (you know who) and we can have a much lesser player filling the void... All the while Roo is winning meaningless midfield possessions and not knowing how to find the ball, how to use the ball and not being able to bend and win the ball on the deck... All the while, he is cut to ribbons by an 'actual' midfielder.

I agree
