Blake Acres $51 rising star
I think that offers great value considering his third quarter. I'm getting on board.

Re: Blake Acres $51 rising star
I reckon Blake has something special about him - he's shown signs of an uncanny ability to read the fall of the ball. But I think this year will be a development year for him rather than setting it alight. He's such a big unit and has been injury interrupted so far. I think he just needs to get this year and another preseason under belt to have a really decent tank. This year he can keep working on being a beast inside and then as he builds his tank can add some run that his long stride gives him.
Re: Blake Acres $51 rising star
Probs worth 5-10 bucks. Not sure if he has that x-factor to get noticed though, seems like the kind of quiet achiever that when you look at the stat sheet your surprised he racked up 30. Hope I'm wrong.

He's a slow burn. Give him another two years to build his fitness & he'll play permanently in the guts. Absolute ball magnet. I don't like him this year for the rising star tho. Oliver, Weitering or Mills.

Re: Blake Acres $51 rising star
As a former Saints coach used to say, "The boy has a bit of heighth." At 191cm, he is the same height as Scott Pendlebury. Using that height in the midst of a ping pong pack to gain clearance is something we have missed since Brendon Goddard left. Blake is a bit slow, but Pendlebury is not that fast either. I am hopeful that what we saw in the third quarter is a promise of things to come.

Re: Blake Acres $51 rising star
He had played 10 games to the end of last season -does he still qualify for the rising star?

yes, he still qualifies. Clayton Oliver for mine though - big bodied and was ready to go.

Re: Blake Acres $51 rising star
He's got big problems under pressure. Not saying he won't solve it (Sam Fisher did), but he panics and turns the ball over too easily.
Gets in the right positions though. Hoping he adjusts to the frenetic pace and learns to keep his calm.

Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.

Had a much improved game on last seasons appearances, cant see anyone getting past Oliver, Weitering or Parish for the rising star though.

Blake was drafted in 2013, so it's time to adjust.matrix wrote:Under a season under the belt id prob panic a bit too in the countries best league

Apparently Oliver had 22 possies in his first game ... and that's with only 58% game time.amusingname wrote:Had a much improved game on last seasons appearances, cant see anyone getting past Oliver, Weitering or Parish for the rising star though.

Re: Blake Acres $51 rising star
Well, he's finally fit so the ball is in his court. He'll need to show a lot more to convince me. There is nothing remarkable about him, unlike Gresham who has already shown a great attack on man and ball and is a very good kick
Re: Blake Acres $51 rising star
His panicking will die down for sure, he wouldn't have got this far if he responded poorly with the footy in his hands. I guess some people come by confidence in different ways.

Be nice to hear the reason for his being omitted - injury, general soreness or something else?

Re: Blake Acres $51 rising star
Blake has still got some improving to do before i'd consider him part of a best 22 that was pushing for the 8.
The fact he was dropped shows he has to convince others as well.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

I highly doubt that is the mindset of the selection panel. I am pretty sure they arent thinking well he hasnt impressed or 'convinced' wayne42. We better drop him.Wayne42 wrote:Blake has still got some improving to do before i'd consider him part of a best 22 that was pushing for the 8.

They wont even be thinking whether he is 'best 22'. They will be merely thinking of his development as an individual. Blake is going to be a slow burn. Think David Mundy. A big midfielder who did stuff all until he was 22-23. They coaches will be just developing him along at his own pace.

It is a shame they abolished the sub as the sight of a green Acres would have brought back many fond memories.

Injuries dont help
Thought he mightve kept his spot and at a guess i reckon he is missing due to either match ups or a niggle

T h e B l a k e looks like he belongs out there
I was thinking this while watching the game on tv last weekend. I thought he looked like he was processing the game information fairly well at times.
I'd like to see Blake follow up with some more solid output such as he demonstrated last weekend.
Glad Blake is on board !
