"Never mind the quality, feel the width."
Channel 7's decision to refuse to broadcast their main channel in HD was on show on the weekend for our game. They even seem to have "downgraded" the picture quality in SD. I have never noticed the blurriness of long shots so much in the past. SBS, 9 and 10 already broadcast in both SD and HD. The ABC will join them in June. But management at 7 have refused to give any indication whether or when they will broadcast in HD.
This is the stupidity of ACMA's "self regulation", or should I say, no regulation. With the Olympic Games coming up, you would think that anyone with half a business brain would be moving to HD ASAP. The take up of HD by consumers has been very high in Australia. Back in 2011, an ACMA study found that, "Ninety three per cent of main television sets with integrated digital tuners and 74 per cent of set top boxes in converted households were high definition." Five years later the reach is likely to be nearing 90%. And yet, good old Ch 7 refuses to move. The AFL should have stipulated HD as part of the next contract at least. Perhaps they forgot about it too.

and we poor regional people its a satellite connection anyway
What angers me most with chanel 7 dishing out the AFL this year - You dont get all games televised (I would even accept a 3am broadcast that I could tape)
YET they see fit to run a 24hr horse racing chanel - a bit like the glut of shopping channels

As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”

Agree it's crazy there isn't government legislation to force live sport to be broadcast in HD.
It's friggin channel 7. The AFL had to force them to show Friday night footy live remember!
It's a shame the AFL didn't force them to broadcast the games in HD also. Must say I occasionally flick the TV
to 7 and can see the huge difference to Foxtel's upscale HD broadcast

Foxtel HD you can even see the stitches on the footy... and no commercials... One thing that's missing though which they had 10 years ago is being able to turn off the commentators and just have the crowd noise turned up with the umpire mic.

How could a govt force a commercial enterprise to broadcast in HD.saintspremiers wrote:Agree it's crazy there isn't government legislation to force live sport to be broadcast in HD.

You should make your mind up. You want the govt to regulate when it suits you.
Thought you Tories were into user pays. Get Foxtel HD and pay for it, if its that bloody important.
You are garbage - Enough said

You could change camera angles too and go to the wide shot and see half the ground

Oh and people - better enjoy foxtel while you can ...tick tick
they are almost giving away the hardware and the base package - I can see pay-for-view coming on soon with AFL
