AFL 2008 2nd Preliminary Final - Hawthorn v St Kilda
Robert Harvey during his final game for St Kilda in 2008
DUAL Brownlow medallist Robert Harvey will be elevated to club legend status at St Kilda’s Hall of Fame event on Saturday night.
Harvey, already an AFL and St Kilda Hall of Fame member, will become the eighth legend alongside club greats Darrel Baldock, Ian Stewart, Allan Jeans, Tony Lockett, Trevor Barker, Neil Roberts and Ross Smith.
Harvey, who played 383 games over 21 years, won back-to-back Brownlow Medals in 1997-98 and won four club best and fairests and eight All Australian nods.
Harvey told saints.com.au he was humbled by the honour.
"A few years ago now I was inducted into the St Kilda Hall of Fame, that was a great honour, so to be among names that have been through the club, you still don’t get used to it," Harvey said.
"To be elevated alongside players like Ian Stewart, Tony Lockett, Darrel Baldock … I was lucky enough to play footy with 'Plugger', I was coached by 'Doc' Baldock … it's a huge honour."
Harvey, now the senior assistant coach at Collingwood, played his final match in St Kilda’s losing 2008 preliminary final, but said his bond with the club was still strong.
"To spend so much time at one place and to put so much love in to one place it’s never going to leave you," Harvey said.
"It’s always great to go back and obviously I'm in a different role at a different club so you’ve got your head in that as well but that part of me will never be gone.
"And to always go back and see old faces that I haven’t seen for a long time it’s a fantastic feeling."
The Saints will also use the night to celebrate their 1966 premiership anniversary.

A lot of those are AFL records... He was a freak.
Insane how good he was... Underrated by most... Even saints fans, who possibly took him for granted or don't understand fully what his output was.....
He influenced more games than any other Saint... By double. That's Bradman like

This is a good thing.
"Now the ball is loose, it gives St. Kilda a rough chance. Black. Good handpass. Voss. Schwarze now, the defender, can run and from a long way".....

Harvey’s glittering career earned a collection of accolades, but with his three children too young to properly experience his playing days, the 44-year-old looks forward to sharing his elevation with Connor, Remi and Alyssa, as well as his wife Danielle.
“I’m really looking forward to the night and having my family there. My kids are getting older now, they don’t remember much of my games, but to have them there for an occasion like that is going to be really special,” Harvey said.

I mean that sincerely.
I have never really put all of these achievements together as you have.
It's incredible.
What a player !
I loved his career and had the pleasure of meeting him personally for a half hour and he was a humble, modest and down to earth man.
He was more interested in me than I could get to ask about himself.
There was a life lesson right there.
