Tuesday
At this early stage it looks like we'll have a proper hit out on Tuesday. Probably three quarters, match conditions, accredited umpires etc.

Real opposition or has the AFL vetoed that as well?tony74 wrote:At this early stage it looks like we'll have a proper hit out on Tuesday. Probably three quarters, match conditions, accredited umpires etc.
No matter how good an intra club, we are playing against each other, not an opposition with a different gameplan.
Disgraceful

Re: Tuesday
Does the VFL season start a week before the AFL season? If so can we play more guys in VFL round one?
Skills in round one are always poor competition wide. Ours are below average at the best of times. Today's no game will definitely be a disadvantage.

Re: Tuesday
Well this is good. I've calmed down a bit. It's not great but hopefully we won't be too much behind the eight ball. Its a tough decision to move a match in just a few days as you need to arrange a lot of things (ground and ground staff, umpires, accommodation, catering etc) and supporters have made their arrangements to get to Mackay. But it seems like there was enough doubt with the forecast of huge amounts of rain for the AFL to take a no-risk approach to Saints and Lions season preparation and do a quick reschedule of venue. Its disappointing the AFL rolled the dice and we've come off second best. Qld supporters miss out on seeing the lads at all.

Re: Tuesday
Not sure if you saw it on Twitter, but GT reckons the nab games are a crock and intraclub the best option for praccy matches. He believes you don't need even any interclub games. But he hasn't coached for a while either.Bunk_Moreland wrote:Real opposition or has the AFL vetoed that as well?tony74 wrote:At this early stage it looks like we'll have a proper hit out on Tuesday. Re: Tuesday
He probably has a fair point but from a fans point of view it is the only time we get to see the young kids play all year for the club. So its disappointing for the fans. Probably doesnt mean much in terms of preparation.saintspremiers wrote:Not sure if you saw it on Twitter, but GT reckons the nab games are a crock and intraclub the best option for praccy matches. I think you might need when, where and against whom first.borderbarry wrote:Tuesday? Who is going? Report please.
Suspect it may just be an intraclub now????

Re: Tuesday
I dont know why the saints and the lions didnt get together and just organize a practice match between themselves for Monday, They were already there and its only 1 1/2 hours drive from Mackay to Brisbane.

It's over 500 miles! It may be 1 1/2 hours drive in a helicopter, but most people drive cars.Playon wrote:I dont know why the saints and the lions didnt get together and just organize a practice match between themselves for Monday, They were already there and its only 1 1/2 hours drive from Mackay to Brisbane.
Re: Tuesday

Re: Tuesday
I read somewhere last night (although I can't find it now) that Brisbane had offered St Kilda to play the game on the Monday night in Brisbane however the saints had chosen not to do this as it would have meant extra flights, accommodation and not returning until Tuesday.
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”
St Kilda - At least we have a Crest!

Change of plans. Normal training with just a little extra thrown in.tony74 wrote:At this early stage it looks like we'll have a proper hit out on Tuesday. Probably three quarters, match conditions, accredited umpires etc.
Sorry, I did say it was at a very early stage!!

Re: M A X 35 degrees !!
Yes, exactly! Why play football in the tropics?!!! Brisbane is at least in the sub-tropics. What would any team gain by playing in Mackay, for heavens' sake!the dome wrote:At that temp it is a day to survive as much as it is to excel.

Did we have to be somewhere on Monday, or is it that we cant afford it?Jacks Back wrote:I read somewhere last night (although I can't find it now) that Brisbane had offered St Kilda to play the game on the Monday night in Brisbane however the saints had chosen not to do this as it would have meant extra flights, accommodation and not returning until Tuesday.
It looks like its not that important to the club and these matches are nothing but a PR stunt for the AFL that we are obliged to do.
So yeah its disappointing to the fans but does it really upset our preseason. Seems not.

I don't know the answer, but would presume they're attempting to break into NRL territory.Harves Man wrote:Yes, exactly! Why play football in the tropics?!!! Brisbane is at least in the sub-tropics. Mackay, Rocky, Townsville are all very strong Rugby League towns, not so much Cairns, where it's probably 50/50 ?? Lot of ex Southerners in Cairns, Port Douglas, etc.
Obviously February, March can be very wet in the tropics, so was certainly a risk playing this time of year.

We lost a Sunday twilight Foxtel slot that normally rates well. TV exposure helps promote memberships and awareness of our club.
That brand exposure is our biggest loss of this whole fiasco.
