Players Ceiling
I have updated these figures to include the first 10 games of this season. Good to see 8 players improve their best.
I have always been interested in what sort of ceiling players have ie. what is the best they can play. I have used stats from Inside Football for each game played in the last 4 years to show out of a possible 10 what is the best game a player has played. This is the result:
10
Montagna
9
Armitage
Riewoldt
Steven
Carlisle
8
Billings
Bruce
Dempster
Fisher
Newnes
Geary (was 7)
Hickey (was 7)
Ross (was 7)
Savage (was 7)
Acres (was 5)
7
Curren
Delaney
Dunstan
Gilbert
Longer
Lonie
Roberton
Saunders
Shenton
Weller
Membrey (was 6)
Sinclair (was 6)
Webster (was 6)
6
McCartin
McKenzie
Wright
5
Goddard
Holmes
Lee
Minchington
Murdoch
Templeton
Some things that stand out for me:
There are a number of players whose best game is a 7 who need to push up to '8' games. In particular:
Savage (now an 8)
Dunstan
Hickey (now an 8)
Longer
Roberton
Weller
'7' is not good enough.
Webster's best is only a '6'. (now a 7).
Nice to see that Carlisle's best is a '9' (and he had several of them).

Mmmm..don't know what to think about this - its an interesting concept. It does give an indication of the heights a player has reached but not their consistency. Carlisle has been criticised for not being consistent but had that amazing game where he kicked 8 or 9 so has that big number. I'd prefer more consistency and a lower number than one great game and hence a high ceiling. But I suppose it does show the weaponary they are capable of displaying on the field.

Re: Players Ceiling
Yeah - not sure I agree with this. Is Joey's best better than everyone's elses? I doubt it. Joey is a great player, but I would prefer Roo, Steven or even Armo at their absolute best than Joey. they are far more influential.
The good thing is that we don't know what the ceiling is for our younger players. Their best could be a 7 - or it could be a 10. that's the exciting thing. Who knows. Paddy could kick 6-7 goals a couple of times this year. No-one knows what their best is, hence why young teams have so much inprovement in them, and why sometimes they just don't improve. It's the great unknown.

Easily a 10. I saw her a few times.supersaints wrote:Bo Derek was a 10
Her outside game was superb. A very good mover. Athletic and balanced.
Very good up front while above average down back.
An all round type. Nothing left on the field.
Need more.
Nothing better than a good Dad Joke.

I don't want to sound sexist but she's a bit old school for me. She looked like drag queen with fake boobs. I think that was the fashion back then. Dudley Moore was a leading man and he looked like a malignant anal wart though.

Re: Players Ceiling
We need the players to break their ceilings and make that level their new floors. When they raise the roof then we win the premiership.
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”
St Kilda - At least we have a Crest!

The biggest disappointment for me out of that lot is Jimmy Webster. I am a huge fan and advocate but he hasnt had a really dominant game yet. He is only 22 but seems to have plateaued at the moment.
Needs to find a new level. May not be until next year.
