No.ROLS-LEE wrote:Need to blood another captain. Let Armo be it with Roo vice captain
Roo needs to step aside completely if he is to give up the captaincy.
I hope Jack Newnes is the man for VC.

Yes, Roo is the captain until he retires, as was Danny Frawlwy. With leadership groups, we do not need succession plan. No obvious stand out anyway.

Armo showed this season he's stepped up a level. In my opinion he's ready to captain, Roo as VC.

We should have gone down the Grant Thomas theory last year but it should start now.
We have quite a young list and we need top develop leadership skills in the youngsters.
Rotate the captaincy for a few seasons and give the kids leadership roles.
Once the captaincy has been passed on the player that is no longer captain doesn't stop being a leader.
Remember this is the system that gave us great leaders like Hammill, Roo, Ball and Lenny. It probably would have given leadership skills to Dal and BJ had the system continued.
Imagine what this system could do for Billings, Goddard, McCartin and even Steven and Armo.

It's time to prepare for life after Roo, so no he shouldn't be captain.
He shouldn't be in the forward line, either, for the same reason. Whack him on the wing, which he has shown he can play superbly, and allow our young forwards to develop.

I would back Roo to make the best decision for the club.

That would just be a bonus. Beating Carlscum at anything is good. I think Roo should be the skipper until he retires, or makes the call he doesn't want the job anymore. He's earned the right for that.saintspremiers wrote:I want him to overtake Kernaf&$&tt as all time games played as captain
I started with nothing and I've got most of it left!

Re: Poll: Should Roo be captain next year?
I couldn't imagine there has ever been a more inspirational or successful example of leadership at this club in my life time (born in 70). I might be wrong. But I would expect that the only way Roo should not be chosen as captain is if he rules himself out of contention. Personally, he is still the pinnacle cant be replaced player and I cant imagine him not leading. He is the kind of player who retires at an elite standard. He will come to training one night and think about something outside of football when he knows he should be focussed on the game and he will know. Then he will move on and be good at something else. He is a champion.

I would love him to do that as well but unless we play in another drawn grand final he can't break the record next year (2016).

Roo should be our captain until he retires. Amazing and inspirational.
I don't know about Armo. He certainly came along way this year but I personally think he seems a bit ridiculous when speaking to the media.

In our eyes as Saints fans you are correct, but it the broader footy world it would be a very significant record and shut up those arseholes at Carlscum!skeptic wrote:He won't be any less of a captain without the title

I'm doubting it will have any effect on anyone of any club. You seem more interested in trying to upset other clubs than worrying about our club. Surely its whants best for us. You know us. The team we follow.
Re: Poll: Should Roo be captain next year?
Yes
He is easily the best leader... in the AFL
Why wouldn't he be captain
