Re: 2015 - Draft & Trade Thread
So Adam Tomlinson apparently wants out of GWS this trade period.
It's been an ongoing rumour that we had the inside running on the kid, that we've been doing the ground work for a potential future trade when he came out of contract next season (I think, or maybe the season after??)
So are we in the running, and what will we cough up to get it done?? Does he somehow fit into a Weller / McCarthy 3-way deal??
Freo give 1st & Weller
We give up 1st
GWS give up Tomlinson & McCarthy
Freo get McCarthy
GWS get our 1st
We get Tomlinson, Weller & Freo 1st
We use Freo's 1st round pick on Carlisle.
Probably a little bit too heavily weighted in our favour, but it represents the value that Pick 5 holds this year.

So if we got him we have decided one of the younger forwards we have recruited isn't going to make it or are we just stockpiling? Id rather a mid or a back before I even would consider Tomlinson. Not even sure he is that good.

Gringo ~ is that because of your feelings about stanley or what you have seen of hipwood?gringo wrote:Or Rhys Stanley? Sorry, Brisbane will take him as an academy player you would think.sunsaint wrote:there is a write up in a QLD local paper about the Eric Hipwood kid as a saints prospect...

and just a refresher 200cm quick and athletic can play key position forward and back but still fast enough to play on the wing...Hipwood confirmed he had met with several AFL clubs, including the team he followed as a boy, St Kilda, but said he was trying not to think about it.
"I had an interview with them (St Kilda) and I was starstruck," he said.
did someone say the perfect modern day footballer?
I could easily say the kid is very much in the same mould as dustin fletcher ~ skinny kid that has a long reach and is quick

Didn't Bains mention on AFL grandstand the other day that we need to recruit in all areas of the ground including forwards? (he mentioned forwards)ripplug66 wrote: So if we got him we have decided one of the younger forwards we have recruited isn't going to make it or are we just stockpiling? The thing is with Tomlinson is that he can play either end of the ground, so I'd imagine that we'd be recruiting him to play down back.
Anyway another rumor is that GWS wont to trade him, and honestly I think were doing pretty well in the forward department

Re: 2015 - Draft & Trade Thread
Tomlinson has 17 goals from 53 games. So lets not be under any illusions about him as a fwd.
The chances of him doing a Bruce are slim to none.
Tomlinson has elite endurance but isnt very quick.
I dont want to be too negative - but one reason why Tomlinson might want out is that he is worried hes not going to be in their best 22 when they start playing finals.
I think we need to add a Breust style fwd to the side. Also besides Kennedy, Darling, Sinclair - the Eagles are getting goals from Le Cras, Cripps and Hill. A bit of pace would be handyBillings is classy and Lonie is clever - but we dont have any genuine pace in that fwd line. Heck even Puopolo is quick over 30 metres. Pace makes defenses panic.

Believe this gives us front running for Carlisle.

Any news jaxons? You've been a bit quiet this year. A lot of us appreciate your input
Re: 2015 - Draft & Trade Thread
Happy to go with the clubs decision on this one, How many of those games was he playing as a forward to kick those goals? He was made a forward after Boyd was traded. I see him playing down back. Plus he's had a toe injury similar FisherCon Gorozidis wrote:Tomlinson has 17 goals from 53 games. So lets not be under any illusions about him as a fwd.

As a defender he might be handy, and could be moved if required.
An early look at his carreer

Still I don't see this trade happening, Carlisle, freeman etc etc Plus GWS dont want to trade. Maybe he's a reverse Bruce

Two years ago we gave up picks 12 and 13 for Hickey and three blokes who can't get a game. I'm not confident.Con Gorozidis wrote:Do not want to give pick 5 for Carlisle.

Re: 2015 - Draft & Trade Thread
According to rumors earlier (Anderson etc) the club said it wont use pick 5 in the Carlisle trade.Con Gorozidis wrote:Do not want to give pick 5 for Carlisle.
Things change so who knows but there are whispers that something else is going on.
Perhaps its something already rumored or perhaps something else.
Whos to say we wont use pick 2 or next years pick 2 or and a player trade, Bombers have already stated they are open to a player trade
I know they need a ruck for a start, there were also mentions of a popular player being involved in the trade.
Theres many ways to get around pick 5
Keeping in mind future trades to grab an A grader, we may have to use pick 5 in the draft or use it to grab an A grader now with perhaps next years first rounder
we have to use 2 first round picks every 4 years so we need to trade carefully or we'll run out of options in the future.
FA may come sooner than later if that was the case

Re: 2015 - Draft & Trade Thread
Great news for us. We must keep pick 5 and take the best player available. Do the Carlisle and Freeman trades with later picks and players. Collingwood will be resigned to getting not too much for Freeman and Essendon are losing players so quickly that they will probably take a pick and a player (Seb Rosss?).saintbrat wrote:#AFLGF @AFL

Make Pick 5 an inspired pick Sainters
Someone above pointed out we traded out picks 12 & 13 (a couple of years ago) for Hickey (not a bad choice necessarily as he gains experience) but the other 3 that came our way didn't materialise into good players. The club no doubt knows it has to keep improving from year to year with its' recruiting.Gershwin wrote:Great news for us.saintbrat wrote:#AFLGF @AFL

Can't help thinking we still need to be adding as classy, talented players any time we get the opportunity.
Hope The Brains Trust study hard and choose wisely @ Pick 5.
